- Arco di Riccardo - This ancient Roman gate, likely dating back to the 1st century A.D., was part of the Roman Tergeste’s walls, constructed by Augustus in 33 B.C.
- Cattedrale di San Giusto Martire - Located atop the hill of the same name, which served as the acropolis of Roman Tergeste and possibly a sacred site. The current five-nave structure was formed in the early 14th century by merging two separate religious complexes.
- Castello di San Giusto - A key symbol of the city, San Giusto Castle stands on its namesake hill, offering views of the city, its gulf, and hinterland.
The entrance ticket (not included) costs €6, and it’s worth it for the stunning gulf view!
- Teatro Romano di Trieste - This Roman theatre is situated at the base of San Giusto hill, in the city’s heart, bordering the historic area.
- Piazza della Borsa - In the 19th century, this square was Trieste’s economic hub. Today, it is an elegant area with several notable buildings and intriguing stories that I will share with you!
- Chiesa Serbo Ortodossa di San Spiridione - A magnificent building in the city center. The church of St. Spiridione, designed in the shape of a Greek cross, reflects the Byzantine style of eastern churches and features a central dome higher than its four bell towers.
- Church of Sant’Antonio Nuovo - Commonly known as ‘Sant’Antonio Nuovo,’ it is named after an earlier church from the mid-18th century. Constructed between 1828 and 1849, the new church draws inspiration from the classical grandeur of significant Roman monuments.
- Canale Grande - The Grand Canal, measuring 370 meters in length and 28 meters in width, is a city symbol. A stroll along its banks is a must!
- Molo Audace - Gia “Molo S. Carlo” - A 200-meter-long walkway over the sea, perfect for a stroll and fresh air at any time of day or season. Be mesmerized by autumn sunsets that paint the Rive’s palaces red, or if you’re adventurous, brave the 100 km/h bora winds to reach the wind rose’s top and test your endurance!
