• Avanos - Known in ancient times as Venessa, Avanos was the third most significant town in the Kingdom of Cappadocia. The most important industry in Avanos is pottery production, a craft that likely dates back to Hittite times.
• Goreme Open-Air Museum - Located 2 kilometers east of Göreme Town, this rock settlement was a hub of monastic life from the 4th to the 13th century A.D. The area features churches, chapels, dining halls, and sitting areas carved into almost every rock block.
• Uchisar Castle - Uchisar is dominated by a 60-meter high ‘castle,’ which is actually a rock formation visible from a great distance. Uchisar was first mentioned in a 14th-century chronicle by Aziz İbn Ardasir, although the area had been inhabited much earlier, possibly since Hittite times.
