Additional Information

Troia was formerly known as the ancient Aece, a city from the Roman era situated on the Appian-Trajan Way. This sightseeing tour promises to introduce you to the historic downtown area that affords a breathtaking view of the Dauni mountains and its magnificent cathedral.

In the trip, you will be guided through the town’s core, taking in sights including the church of St. Vincent the Martyr and the Basilica of St. Basil and St. Francis, renowned for Baroque art. Also on the itinerary are key architectural landmarks, such as the palace of the D’Avalos princes, Palazzo Varo and Palazzo Siliceo.

The tour culminates in a visit to the cathedral, named after the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Assumption. This 12th-century landmark, built in the Apulian Romanesque style atop a Byzantine-era church, houses one of Puglia’s most beautiful rose windows, comprised of 11 stone columns and twenty-two distinct fretwork decorations, creating a pattern resembling delicate lacework. Also of note is its bronze entrance door, adorned with a pair of remarkable dragon-shaped knockers.
