Kilpisjarvi - On occassion when it is too cloudy to have gaps in Norway we might cross the border to Finland. This will only be done when there are substantially higher chances of seeing gaps in the clouds in Finland then in Norway.

Join us for a small-group Aurora hunt that offers an ethical experience in pursuit of the Aurora Borealis. Escape the light pollution of Tromsø and venture into the Arctic wilderness. Our knowledgeable guide uses forecasts and local insights to select the optimal location for viewing the Northern Lights. Once the perfect spot is found, participants will don warm thermal suits and boots, set up a cozy campfire, and savor a homemade meal. During the Aurora Hunt, the guide will capture photos of the participants, which are provided for free in web-sized resolution after the tour.
Unwind by the fire with a cup of hot chocolate before heading back to your hotel on Tromsø island. While sightings of this natural wonder cannot be guaranteed, our dedicated Aurora Hunters strive to maximize the chances every night of the season. Enhance your opportunity to witness the Northern Lights by joining on multiple evenings.

Unforgattable experience! blew our expectations thanks to the best guide we could get! Thank you Tomas!! - What a great surprise! I had good expections for this tour but then it went way better than i could have expected and that was truly due to our guide Tomas. Im always afraid some tours may be a tourist trap and guides are just there to say some prememorized texts but not Tomas, we was deeply and truly interested in all of the artic topic! you could see his eyes when we were lucky to get the auroras :) Also, being super respectful, making us feel at ease all the time, understanding! We drove a bit in the begginning trying to get the best spot but always being explained the reason, how to measure the levels to get highest chance of seeing auroras. The experience was great, we had a nice fireplace, we were explained all, we felt litterally like a cosy group of friends being guided by the one thats truly affectionate for it. Thank you Tomas for all!!!

Amazing!!!! Don't worry about the weather - Christian was an absolute 💯 amazing tour guide. Even when the weather was not ideal, his positive interactive personality made the experience unforgettable for myself, my son and grandson. Cristian insightful knowledge of Tromso, Norway as well as of the country's history was thoroughly appreciated by us.
If I had the opportunity to visit Norway again I would have enjoyed to have him as my tour guide. Those who will meet him will have the pleasure of enjoying a very interactive tour experience.
The most important thing I can say that based on Christian positive interactive attributes my experience on this tour was magnificent. Like we say, " Gracias mi amigo - por una experiencia inolvidable" Yesenia Romero

Northern Lights experience - It was an absolutely amazing experience. Wandering Owl couldn’t do better. From beginning to end everything was better than expected. Lovely that they keep the group small as it makes it personal and intimate. Many thanks to Wandering Owl for making my bucket list such an incredible experience.

100% recommended - Our experience with Bart was the absolute highlight of our trip to Norway! He went above and beyond to make this adventure truly unforgettable.
Bart was not only professional and incredibly knowledgeable but also generous with his time and expertise. He even shared photography tips with me, adding a personal and thoughtful touch to the experience. His dedication to helping us see the aurora was extraordinary—he constantly monitored forecasts and taught us how to identify the lights, even when they appeared faint. While we couldn’t see the green aurora clearly with the naked eye due to weaker activity during our visit, Bart helped us capture its vibrant glow on our cameras. On the way back, he remained vigilant in case we could spot a stronger display, and thanks to his guidance, we even recognized a faint aurora from the plane on our journey home!
The evening by the fire, enjoying warm soup and drinks under the stars, felt magical and cozy. The provided gear—including snowsuits, boots, and headlamps—ensured we stayed warm, comfortable, and safe throughout the adventure.
We were also impressed by the Wandering Owl’s commitment to conservation and sustainability. Learning about their environmental practices made us feel even better about choosing this company over others. They also have apparently expanded to coffee and I regret not asking how to purchase some since Bart made us some very good coffee.
As a frugal traveler, I can confidently say that this small-group excursion with Bart was worth every penny. I'm glad we went with a smaller tour as seeing the lights was an important experience for us. It was an exceptional experience, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a unique and meaningful adventure in Norway.

Amazing Aurora experience - Our guide, Bart, was fantastic and the trip was amazing. We were lucky to have a clear night to see the northern lights. Bart took us outside of the city to get away from the light pollution. He was extremely knowledgeable about the aurora phenomenon as well as the history and legends surrounding them. Overall we had a fantastic experience and highly recommend this trip.

Magical place - An incredible experience, it is important not to have high expectations as the phenomenon is unpredictable, the colors were not so intense but with the cameras you could see many intense figures and we took photos with cell phones. We were lucky that the sky was clear, many stars were seen before the Northern Lights show began.
The campfire with the stories of Bart the guide were very interesting. The soup is very rich and the chocolate too but little was done. A small group makes a difference to live this experience magically. The thermal clothes helped us a lot to stay several hours in the cold.
Things that included the internet and that wasn't it. The tour I had ordered in Spanish but I think it was better to have had a guide like Bart with a lot of experience.

Wandering Owl - If you want the best book with the best!!! - The private Wandering Owl tour of the Northern Lights four our family of six was spectacular!! It was a stormy night when we left Tromso and our guide, Bart used every trick in the book to ensure we had a beautiful sighting of the lights. He drove us all the way to Finland where there are micro-climates in hopes of some clear skies. Not only did he find one area that provided us fabulous views, but his desire to ensure we had the best the night could offer led him to bring us to several other spots that had even better views of the Aurora Borealis. There are not enough adjectives in the English language to express how impressed I was with Bart or how incredibly happy I was with the journey!!
Do yourself a favor, if you are in the area and want to see the Northern Lights book with Wandering Owl. From the time I began my research, throughout booking, and then the actual tour - every Wandering Owl employee was attentive, gracious, and kind!! They know how to deliver exceptional experiences!!

Great experience with wandering owl - Bart from wandering owl made my dream come true to see the aurora dance a little bit. Even though the weather was extremely bad he found a gap close to the finnish border and then an even better spot near Skibotn. Bart was constantly checking the sky to make sure we don't miss anything. He was very knowledgeable and was very eager to teach us all kinds of things about the northern lights. We had an amazing time.

Choose Wandering Owls when chasing the lights! - We chased openings with our guide Evgeni, while celebrating my Mum's very special birthday. Evgeni was a fantastic guide and the whole tour exceeded our expectations (even the lights put on a spectacular show!)
I would highly recommend Wandering Owls if booking an Aurora Hunt tour. They are a very ethical company, trying to raise awareness and educate tourists about protecting the local wildlife, as well as sharing their knowledge about the Aurora Borealis.
The food and drinks provided were great, and we ended up with a good group of people. Fab tour!

Amazing experience - Completed a bucket list item - Thank you Bart and Wondering Owl - We had an amazing experience in this tour. We were incredibly lucky that weather stayed clear, given that the days before and after our tour was filled with rain and cloudy skies around Tromso. The tour party was limited to 8, which was ideal.
We can only say good things about our amazing guide Bart, who went above and beyond his way to make sure we had a great experience. He took care of the tour party very well and had great conversations with all of us. Bart was very knowledgeable on Auroras and was very keen to keep us informed on Science behind Auroras. He superbly planned this tour and found a great spot with minimal light pollution. We were treated with an amazing display of aurora borealis.
We had the option of wearing thermal outfit to keep ourselves warm. Also there was a wood fire to keep us warm. Bart treated us with warm hot chocolate and tasty vegan soup.
Highly recommend this tour with ideal party size. Also, thanks Wondering Owl and Bart for the attempts made to clean the camp site and to make sure only our footsteps are left behind.
