If You Like Fishing, This Is The Excursion For You! - My husband really enjoys fishing. I don't care for it quite as much as him, but whenever we go on a vacation I always try to book a fishing trip for us and I always catch something! This excursion was no exception because we both caught more cod than we could count and then we got to eat them too! I even caught two cod at once! The ship was beautiful, the crew was extremely helpful and the scenery was magnificent! I tend to get seasick, but I did not on this cruise because the water of the fjords was not rough and the boat wasn't bouncing up and down. It was a very smooth ride. I did take an anti-nausea pill just to be safe. It was very cold and the wind was biting, but if you were dressed properly, it didn't matter. I was dressed very warmly, so I stayed in my own clothes, but my husband chose to use their one piece outerwear for extreme weather and he said he actually felt too warm at times. The crew assigns you to places around the ship and they are right on the spot to add bait to your line and to take off the fish you've caught. The keepers they clean and cook for us, the smaller fish they throw back to live another day or to be caught in the circle of life as food for the seagulls and the eagles that follow the ship. The crew was also extremely helpful in suggesting restaurants in Tromso and food to try. A delicacy is grilled stockfish, which is cod that has been dried, then rehydrated and then grilled. It was delicious and has more protein than any other fish - look it up! We also discovered tea made with black currant syrup that the Norwegians grow up on and again, it is delicious. The thin bread crisps are unlike anything we've had in the states, but we found them at Trader Joe's because we are hooked on them. There are toilets on the ship and places to sit down below deck to get out of the elements. Frankly, the scenery is so beautiful that you shouldn't miss it by staying below as long as you are dressed properly and if you didn't bring something warm enough, the crew will supply you with warm outerwear. If we make it back to Norway, we would do this excursion again in a heartbeat! Thank you to the captain and crew of the Hermes II for such a memorable adventure!

So much fun! - This was such a fun experience! Great way to get out on the water, see parts of the fjords, and do some fishing. Caught several fish myself and the group caught more than enough to clean and cook for lunch on the way back (was delicious!). The captain and crew were so kind and fun to be with. Learned a lot about the ship, the area, the fish we caught, and much more. Would definitely do this again!

Successful outing for all including the fish eagles! This was a perfect end to a cruise north from Oslo. - It was very easy to find after getting off our cruise. Crew members were making final preparations and were welcoming. This was one of the last remaking 1917 trawlers built to save lives in sometimes dangerous waters. It was in tip top shape with modern equipment and very clean. Caught fish for ourselves and the local fish eagles. AAA

Arctic deep sea fishing- Tromso - Absolutely fantastic trip on Hermes II. The boat is beautifully restored and has a really interesting history, the crew are so friendly and welcoming and the scenery is just wonderful. We had a half day fishing trip, the skipper found us plenty of fish to catch, some pretty big cod and haddock and even a wolf fish! The crew then cooked it for us…there’s nothing tastier! I’d recommend this trip for fishers and for those who just want to enjoy a boat trip out of Tromso…well worth every krone!

One of our favorite excursions!! - My parents (late 70s), my husband and I (early 50s) REALLY enjoyed this fishing/fjord tour. We've been travelling for over 2 weeks and out of all our paid excursions, this was one of our favorites (maybe even our favorite out of all). The fishing, the boat and views were fantastic, but the crew made it perfect! All of them made us feel welcome and special. They did everything they could to ensure we had a great time. We learned so much about the ship and the area. I didnt catch any fish, but other passengers did, and the crew cleaned the cod and cooked it all for us to eat. Best fish I've ever eaten! Amazing to be able to sit on the ship and eat fish that was caught not even an hour before. We have another day in the area and I'm tempted to book it again! We definitely recommend this excursion and want to say thank you to the crew that allowed us to have such a wonderful experience! We will be telling everyone back home about how much fun we had today!

HERMES 11. THE BEST fishing trip in Tromso. - We stayed in Tromso for 10 days. We booked 3 seperate fishing trips throughout the 10 days along with other adventures, Hermes 2 being the 1st on Tue 12th Dec. Its fair to say we did THE BEST fishing trip of our time in Tromso on this day on Hermes 2. The Crew were superb. We moved about following the fish throughout the trip, going far out into the lake, unlike other trips. Our trip caught 3-4 times more fish than the other 2 trips we went on. One of the fish my son caught was a great cod and the crew gutted it in front of us as we watched it go in the pan - no pre frozen fish like one of the trips we went on!! The fish was superb to eat. You could watch the sonar screen below in the galley, seeing what the captain saw. This was the only trip to stop and attract the wild eagles and we got to video it diving for fish. If you are looking for a fishing trip whilst in Tromso, THIS IS THE ONE TO CHOSE. You will not be disappointed. Thankyou for the experience Hermes 2 - sorry it took me so long to post.

A great experience during our stay in Tromsø - My wife, 5 year old son and myself went on the fishing trip in February 2024 and we all had a great time. The three crew on board were all really friendly, informative and we had a good laugh with them all during our trip. They were particularly good with our son, explaining things, joking with him and showing him photos taken from previous trips. My son really enjoyed the trip and learnt where fish fingers come from! My wife usually suffers from seasickness and was a little worried before getting on the boat. Fortunately the conditions on the day were really nice, with blue skies and calm seas which helped. But as the boat operates within the shelter of the surrounding islands, I can't imagine it gets too rocky out there, well at least not as bad as the open seas. When getting onboard, ewe were offered cold weather clothing. But as we were already well wrapped up we didn't need this. We didn't feel cold at any point of the cruise. But in the event conditions are colder there is a heated below deck cabin you can sit in (where lunch is served). There are two proper flush toilets on board as well. Catching fish on a fishing trip is always in the lap of the gods, so you have to go with the mindset that you might not catch anything. But fortunately the fish were playing ball and we all caught a few fish. My son caught 3 cod, my wife caught 2 cod and another fish (lira?) And I caught 2 cod and also a plaice - which apparently is a rarity for the boat. We spent some time on the bridge chatting with the captain and my son particularly enjoyed being allowed to steer the boat! The captain was showing us the navigation screens and also the sonar used to help detect where the shoals of fish were, to increase our chances of catching. The crew then filleted the fish and cooked some up for us. It was so tasty. You can't get any fresher than that! We were also given fish cakes and offered hot drinks - both included with the package. After lunch we cruised along one side of the fjord and we're lucky enough to see a white tailed eagle up close. The scenery in the area is stunning! Overall it was a great experience and one I'd recommend to anyone visiting Tromsø. The boat is very safe and with relatively high sides, there's no chance a child can fall in (which is no doubt a concern for any parent thinking of booking this trip).
