Tromsø has always been a crucial participant in numerous significant polar explorations throughout history, a role it continues to maintain. During this guided Tromsø town walk, which offers views of the Arctic Cathedral across the water, you’ll understand through the city’s architecture, statues, and landmarks, how Tromsø earned its moniker, the “Gateway to the Arctic”.
Your guide will pause near Roald Amundsen’s statue, noting that several of his polar explorations launched from Tromsø.
The tour will conclude at the Polarmuseet, where a photograph exhibit showcases Roald Amundsen’s life and polar expeditions. The museum also displays some artifacts from Amundsen’s renowned expeditions, a few of which are deemed as Norway´s prestigious polar history’s crowning jewels.
