Additional Information

The tour starts in front of Pirbadet. It continues to a modern part of the city called Solsiden where many locals spend their free time enjoying themselves outside the cafés and restaurants. We proceed along the river Nid and the colorful warehouses. After that we head to one of the oldest areas of the town – Bakklandet – which has managed to preserve its charming wooden architecture. In Bakklandet is where you also find the world’s only bicycle lift. We leave Bakklandet behind crossing over the famous old town bridge with “The Portal of Happiness”. Then we arrive at Nidaros Cathedral, Norway’s national monument. Nidaros Cathedral is built over the tomb of St. Olav, Norway’s patron saint. We carry on to the Market Square (Torget). Here, the Viking King Olav Tryggvason, the city’s founder, is enthroned above the vibrant square in the shape of a statue. Our next stop is Stiftsgården, the royal residence, and passing Britannia Hotel before heading back to the harbour.

Do not book. - The guide Gale didn’t have an in-depth knowledge on the area that he was guiding. A clear example of this was he took us to a statue in the middle of town, and when asked what the name of the person was, he said “I’m sorry I can’t remember, it’s a Norwegian name.” The guide was from France. Gabe lacked direction and confidence, and there were many, many awkward silences. Gabe knew a small script with each stop, but struggled to provide information or answers outside of this. He labelled the cathedral as the burial place of the wrong king. His presentation I.e. wearing an old Star Wars tshirt further added to the lack of professionalism in this company. I have probably done 20 walking tours across the world, and unfortunately this one was the most lacking and disappointing. We left the tour early, and immediately contacted the tour company and they were very apologetic at first, then they became distant and unprofessional and sadly refused a refund.
