Setting Sail from Trou d’Eau Douce

The morning sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon as I made my way to the dock at Trou d’Eau Douce. The air was filled with the salty tang of the ocean, and the gentle lapping of waves against the catamaran set the perfect tone for the day ahead. As a former professional surfer, the ocean has always been my playground, and today promised to be another thrilling adventure on the water.

Our catamaran, a sleek vessel with billowing sails, was ready to whisk us away to the wonders of Mauritius. The crew welcomed us aboard with warm smiles and a promise of a day filled with exploration and relaxation. With a small group of fellow travelers, we set off towards the Grand River South East Waterfall, known locally as ‘Cascade Diamamouve’.

The journey upriver was a serene experience, with lush greenery lining the banks and the occasional monkey swinging through the trees. The waterfall itself was a sight to behold, cascading down in a shimmering curtain of water. We paused for photos, capturing the beauty of this natural wonder, before continuing our journey.

A Feast on the Waves

As we sailed towards Ile Aux Cerfs, the crew prepared a sumptuous BBQ lunch on board. The aroma of grilled meats and fresh seafood wafted through the air, mingling with the scent of the ocean. Despite the overcast skies and the occasional drizzle, the atmosphere on the catamaran was lively and cheerful.

The tour operator had ensured that there was no shortage of food and drink, catering to both adults and children alike. With a selection of soft drinks, juices, beer, wine, and local rum, there was something for everyone to enjoy. As we dined, the crew regaled us with stories of the island, adding a touch of local flavor to our meal.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t on our side for snorkeling, but the camaraderie on board more than made up for it. We shared laughs and stories, bonding over our shared love for the sea and adventure. It was a reminder that sometimes, the best experiences are about the people you’re with, rather than the activities you do.

Discovering Ile Aux Cerfs

Our final destination was the paradisiacal island of Ile Aux Cerfs. As we approached, the sight of swaying palm trees and pristine white beaches framed by vivid turquoise waters took my breath away. It was a scene straight out of a postcard, and I couldn’t wait to set foot on the island.

Once ashore, we had the freedom to explore at our own pace. Some chose to relax on the beach, soaking up the sun and the tranquil ambiance. Others, like myself, wandered through the local craft market, picking up souvenirs to remember this incredible journey.

As the day drew to a close, we sailed back to Trou d’Eau Douce, entertained by the rhythmic beats of Mauritian Sega music. The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the water, and I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the day’s adventures.
