At Tsubame City Industrial History Museum, immerse yourself in the history and technology of the craftsmen’s town “Niigata Prefecture Tsubame” to experience! At the experience laboratory, metal craft experiences are also possible!
- Yahiko Shrine - Yahiko Jinja (弥彦神社), also known as Iyahiko-jinja, is a Shinto shrine in the Yahiko neighborhood of the village of Yahiko, Nishikanbara District, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. It is one of the three shrines which claim the title of ichinomiya of the former Echigo Province. This shrine, standing at the foot of a mountain, is popularly known as a power spot for love and good fortune.
- Tsubamesanjo Regional Industries Promotion Center - The TSUBAMESANJO Regional Products Store is a renowned tourist shop where you can find a plethora of products made in “Tsubame-Sanjo,” Japan’s No.1 metalware production area. A wide range of products, from those made by traditional craftsmanship to those utilizing state-of-the-art technology, are available. Displaying and selling about 10,000 items of cutlery, knives, kitchen tools, pots, pans, and more. Particularly, the Hand-Hammered metal craft manufactured using a copper plate is extremely popular among international customers.
- High Grade Store - A place where you can experience authentic craftsmanship. They mainly carry products made in Japan and Tsubame-Sanjo. Among them, they carefully select, display, and sell tools that are cherished by professionals.
- Tsubame Sanjo Wing - Located on the 2nd floor of Tsubamesanjo station, you can stop here for souvenir shopping at the end of the tour before leaving Niigata. You can buy Tsubamesanjo’s quality goods too.
- Tojiro Knife Gallery - At Tojiro, you can experience a factory tour and fruit knife-making experience. Tojiro Knife Gallery crafts knives by cutting patterns from steel plates. It is rare to see the entire knife-making process in one place; it is a must-see. During the fruit knife crafting experience, you will make a knife from a pattern and get an up-close and personal view of the craftsmen’s actual working space at some stages. They also have a showroom where you can buy their products.

This 6-hour walking tour features a visit to a knife factory and a fruit knife crafting experience at Tojiro, one of Japan’s premier knife manufacturers. During the fruit knife crafting session, participants will create a knife from a pattern and have the opportunity to observe craftsmen in their actual working environment.
The showroom offers a chance to purchase Tojiro products.
Before heading to Tojiro, a licensed guide will lead a walking tour. The guide will also assist with translations during the factory tour and knife-making experience, which begins at 1:00 PM.
Tour customization is available after booking by selecting 1 to 2 spots from the ‘what to expect’ or ‘itinerary’ list.
※Fruit knife crafting is available for adults (11 years and older). Children and infants are welcome on the factory tour.
