A Journey Through the Heart of Lao Cai
As I embarked on the 3-day adventure through the captivating landscapes of Lao Cai, I was immediately struck by the harmonious blend of nature and culture that defines this region. Our journey began in the Muong Khuong district, where the road to Cao Son was lined with lush tea plantations and verdant pine forests. The air was crisp, and the scenery was nothing short of breathtaking.
Upon reaching Cao Son, I was welcomed by the vibrant colors of the Giay people’s traditional attire. Their presence added a lively touch to the already picturesque surroundings. After settling into the Cao Son lodge, I took a moment to reflect on the rich cultural tapestry that awaited me. The afternoon was spent exploring Tin Thang village, where I was introduced to the traditional art of bacon-making. The locals, with their warm hospitality, offered me corn wine and corn cake, a delightful taste of their culinary heritage.
The Vibrant Coc Ly Market and Chay River
The second day of our journey led us to the Coc Ly market, a bustling hub of activity situated by the Chay River. Here, the air was filled with the sounds of bargaining and laughter as ethnic minorities, including the Flower Hmong, Black Zao, and Tay, gathered to trade their goods. The market was a sensory feast, with vibrant textiles, fresh produce, and even livestock on display.
After immersing myself in the lively market atmosphere, I embarked on a serene boat ride down the Chay River. The gentle flow of the river provided a perfect backdrop for observing the daily lives of the locals along the riverbanks. As we cruised past natural caves and lush landscapes, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of connection to the land and its people.
Cultural Immersion in Ta Phin Village
Our final day took us to Ta Phin village, home to the Red Dao and Black Hmong communities. Walking through the village, I was captivated by the unique architectural styles and the intricate handicrafts that adorned the local homes. The Red Dao and Black Hmong people, with their rich traditions and harmonious coexistence, offered a glimpse into a way of life that has remained unchanged for generations.
As I trekked through the mountainous terrain, the stunning vistas of rice terraces and cornfields unfolded before me. It was a reminder of the beauty and resilience of the people who call this land home. The journey concluded with a trek to Mong Sen, where a car awaited to take us back to Lao Cai station.
Reflecting on this journey, I am reminded of the profound beauty and cultural richness that define this region. The 3-day tour offered not just a glimpse into the lives of the local communities but also an opportunity to connect with the timeless traditions that continue to thrive in the heart of Lao Cai.
