Arrival in Tui

Tui - If you like multicultural places, you have just come to the perfect place. Tui is a town on the border with Portugal, from which it is only separated by the Miño River. In fact, Tui forms a Eurocity with Valença do Minho. Furthermore, it is an amalgamation of people because here pilgrims who, like you, begin the adventure, meet with pilgrims who come walking from Portugal. Perfect for meeting people, listening, sharing experiences and preparing for the adventure you are about to begin. Enjoy your Portuguese Camino from Tui!

Tui - O Porriño Stage (18.7 Kms)

Porrino - This is a stage of exuberant colors and vegetation, since several kilometers run along itineraries of the Gándaras de Budiño Natura 2000 Network space. The walk is pleasant and gentle, so enjoy the surroundings and your first day as a pilgrim.

What better than to end the day with a pleasant walk through the historic center of this cozy municipality. It is a place completely closed to traffic through which people of all ages and nationalities pass. It also has numerous shops and cafes located in the surrounding area. The perfect plan to enjoy a relaxed afternoon will be to sit on one of the terraces in the town hall square and enjoy some delicious portions with a good Albariño wine.

O Porriño Stage - Arcade (23 Kms)

Arcade Stage - Pontevedra (12 Kms)

Pontevedra - You will leave Arcade behind and begin the stage by crossing one of the most historically important bridges in Galicia, Ponte Sampaio. A colossal stone bridge that spans the Verdugo River and where, during the War of Independence, a battle was fought that led to the withdrawal of French troops in Galicia. After crossing the bridge you will wander through villages, manors, hórreos and cruzeiros until you reach the Brea Vella da Canicouva, an evocative path of large slabs along which the 19th Roman road ran.

Pontevedra is one of the most beautiful cities in Galicia. A walk through its cobbled streets and squares will be enough to realize its charm. After Santiago de Compostela, Pontevedra is the place on the Portuguese Way from Tui with the most heritage elements. You can visit, among other things, the Ruins of Santo Domingo in the Provincial Museum of Pontevedra, the Royal Basilica of Santa María la Mayor, and the symbol of the city: the Peregrina church.

Pontevedra - Caldas de Reis Stage (21 Kms)

Caldas de Reis - After crossing the Lérez River, the Camino leaves Pontevedra and will take you to the Marismas de Alba observatory, a large 80-hectare wetland that is home to hundreds of plant species and 123 species of birds. The route runs along roads where many crossroads and level crossings converge, so you should take extreme caution. Once you arrive in Briallos, we recommend that you detour half a kilometer to visit the Barosa Waterfalls, a natural area of extraordinary beauty, with a beautiful sixty-meter waterfall and fourteen windmills arranged along the waterfalls.

Now at the end of your stage, Caldas de Reis, water continues to be the protagonist as it is one of the most important thermal towns in Galicia. We present the perfect plan to enjoy a pleasant afternoon: After a brief walk through the garden botanical sit on one of its terraces and enjoy the tranquility listening to the murmur of the river.

Caldas de Reis - Padrón Stage (18.6 Kms)

Padron - We leave Caldas behind to enter the Bermaña valley. The route continues through forests of ancient trees, oak groves, cornfields and cruzeiros. After a gentle climb you will reach Santa Mariña de Carracedo, a small charming village. The road continues towards Padrón passing through deep forests with water mills and leaving behind small villages until reaching Pontecesures. We cross the Roman bridge to reach our destination: Padrón.

Today’s plan is about literature. On this day we introduce you to Rosalía de Castro, one of the most illustrious Galicians in history. In his Padrón House-Museum, you can learn everything about his life and work.

Padrón is also a mythical place, according to legend this is where the boat carrying the remains of the apostle Santiago landed. You can visit the famous Pedrón that was used to moor the boat in the town’s Santiago church. And how could it be otherwise, no one can leave without trying their famous peppers.

Padrón Stage - Santiago de Compostela (24.3 Kms)

Santiago de Compostela - Last day of the pilgrim experience! As we always say, the ideal is to get up early to make the most of the day in Santiago de Compostela. Today’s stage will go by super quickly between the nerves and the excitement of the imminent arrival. The jewel of this stage is found in the beautiful collegiate church of Iria Flavia, which was the first cathedral in Galicia and in whose cemetery, under an olive tree, you will find the humble tomb of the well-known writer Camilo José Cela. The path continues through the municipalities of Teo and Ames until it ends with your triumphal entry in the Plaza del Obradoiro. Without a doubt the most emotional moment of your entire Portuguese Camino from Tui.

You are in Santiago! Feel happy and proud to have completed your Camino Portugues from Tui. Now you just need to collect the Compostela certificate and enjoy an incredible day getting to know the Galician capital.

The end of the trip

Santiago de Compostela - This is a day of farewell for many, the end of a journey, and why not, the beginning of many. On the last day you will wake up with another path in your lives, but not a path of kilometers, but of experiences, emotions and new friendships; a journey that will be projected into your lives and will help you continue walking freely towards your own goals.

You have completed the Portuguese Way that you started from the town of Tui a week ago.

Tranquility and friends along the way - It is a path with really beautiful sections, although it has quite a few stretches of road. Worth. 2 stages were hard, although it is true that we are over 60 years old.

If we recommend repeating the route, even more so with Viajes Camino de Santiago - From the first moment they were very attentive to each of our requests, super flexible and accessible. We only found advantages of contracting with them, that is, we were able to put our 100% of the Camino thanks to their support. Great hostels, both in location and facilities. Yes, perhaps, and it may be because of the kilometers traveled, we would put more emphasis on the breakfasts - which we hired separately - in some they were great, but in others it was a condition for you to stop to eat along the way because it was scarce.

CAMINO SANTIAGO FROM SARRIA - On your part as an agency, since we called you until today, everything has been phenomenal (5 stars), everything is very detailed, but some accommodations leave something to be desired, except for the Arca O Pedrouzo pension.👌 Thanks for everything
