A fantastic day out very informative and fun - This was a fantastic day trip from start to finish. Pick up on time in a lovely air conditioned coach. Guide was a superstar (Raul Torres) very informative and passionate about the area being a Mayan descendant himself. Kept the groups attention with his stories the whole day, be it about why the mayans settled here to how they were forced to change religions when the new world explorers tried to claim the area as their own. It was like a history lesson but fun. The tour of the Mayan structures was delivered at the right pace with regular stops to grab a sip of water. Again very informative as to which building was used for what in their culture. It does however include quite a bit or walking around the vast site, although there is the option to hire your own pushbike or a small tuktuk driven for you for a few dollars. Lunch included was nice, just the right amount of choices of traditional Mexican local cuisine with a sweet hibiscus tea. Beer and other drinks are available to purchase. Visit to a real genuine Mayan family home was very grounding as they live without so many amenities taken for granted in today’s society. We made fresh tortillas baked over an oven fire. Sampled Mayan honey which they believe has medicinal purposes for a multitude of ailments including male enhancement in the bedroom. finally the cenote swim was out of this world, you get blessed by the local shaman to cleanse any bad spirits before deciding down into a different world of a cave filled with a fresh water pool filtered by the limestone over many many years. It’s quite cold gents.
