Sian Ka’an Biosphere: Explore Quiet Wetlands and Lagoons

This offers a delightful opportunity to explore the Sian Ka’an Biosphere, taking in the distinctive scenery of the wetlands in the peaceful sections of the lagoons that are less busy with tourist crowds traveling to Punta Allen. Experience a personal encounter with the Biosphere’s saltwater lagoons, coral reef, and mangrove forests.

Duration: 6 hours
Cancellation: 24 hours
Highlights
  • Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve - Sian Ka’an is a tropical wetland paradise – on this tour we visit a thin strip of land bordered by empty stretches of beach, lagoons and lush vegetation on a boat ride that takes us across diverging coastal ecosystems, through mangrove forest and out to the coral reef.
  • Boca Paila - 8km inside the biosphere, where we board a small boat to visit Boca Paila – a vital point of convergence for many animals, where we have the chance to spot the resident birdlife, crocodiles, a plethora of fish and even the rare manatee. Weather permitting, we then head out a short distance on open water to snorkel on the Mesoamerican Barrier reef, where you will be delighted by the healthy corals and fish in abundance.

Your homemade lunch will be waiting on the beach when we return and we will relax among the coconut groves for a while and enjoy a swim in the sea if you like, before hitting the road back.

  • Campechen - Campechen lagoon is the last and largest lagoon of the Sian Ka´an Bisophere. Here we will board a boat and go explore ecosystems and wildlife.

A ray of hope in Tulum. - I was a bit sad and disappointed about how consumism and irresponsible tourism has corrupted Tulum. And suddenly I found this tour to Sian Ka'an protected zone with Mexico Kan Tours, and literally was a ray of hope. Amazing tour, ecologically responsible, fun, breathtaking, inspiring and amazing. Sian Ka'an means "where Heaven is born" and it is. Had Cristina as guide and Niko as driver, and were amazing. People convinced with their heart about what they do. Thank you.

Amazing experience in the Sian Kaan reserve - Amazing experience in the sian kaan reserve. We went for a tour in the lagoon to see the flora and the animals ; then we went snorkling to see the coral barrier. End up with a nice lunch at a cenote. It made me want to discover more of the reserve ! Our guide Macarena shared her passion and knowledge of the nature and the animals I was impressed by how fast our captain was able to find manatees and crocodiles. Thanks to Gualberto, Macarena and Obet (not sure about the spelling) !

Highly recommend this tour! - We had an amazing tour with Macarena and Gualberto! It was the perfect way to see wildlife in Sian Ka' an in a couple hours. We saw manatees, herons, crocodiles, and fish in the reef. Our guide was very fun and knowledgeable. She made sure everyone was included and had time to capture pictures of the memories they were making. Our captain on the boat had eagle eyes in the lagoon and was able to spot and call out wildlife for us. The timing was perfect too because we had the rest of the day to regroup. Highly recommend this tour!

Great trip! - One of the best experiences we had during our vacation in Mexico! It was an amazing half-day trip. The driver took us directly from our hotel in Riviera Maya, and we formed a group of 7 people. Niko, the guide, was very professional and friendly. We took a boat trip through the lagoon and the ocean, we swam and we snorkeled. We had the possibility to observe a lot of endemic animals (manatees, crocodiles, birds and fishes) and a great variety of corals. After the trip we had a simple but great tasting lunch in a beautiful location just in front of a cenote.
