OMG! Talk About a Birthday Treat! - Came to Tulum in March for a Solo Bday celebration (I'm very much an introvert). So I signed up for this because I wanted something beautiful to do on my birthday. To say I had an amazing time would be the biggest understatement of the year. My tour guide was Hilary from Italy. She was phenomenal and so amazing. Her parents were also visiting as well. Sian Kaan is absolutely stunning. We did snorkeling and looked for turtles, we even saw some dolphins on the way out. When we arrived for lunch, they found out it was my birthday and surprised me with a little bday treat. I loved how Hilary was educating the group about the ecosystem and how we can protect it, especially from harmful chemicals in sunscreen. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone. There was also a family with small kids with us and they enjoyed it as well. I will definitely book this again when I go.

Sian Ka’an - 1/10/24 Sian Ka'an a “Safari in search of animals” .... here are the pelicans and other birds that nest, here are the dolphins, the turtle that pulls out its head twice the crocodile ... and then some fish on the reef in 15/20 minutes of snorkeling a bath at the natural pools (to take a picture of the century) and then lunch and then return with the captains of the spears who challenge each other to who runs more playing and joking with each other .... But the real Sian Ka'an is more! Fortunately there is the Internet where you can find all the info about what it really is: Sian Ka’an: a biosphere reserve located in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. It became a national park in 1986 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. Part of the reserve is on land, the rest is part of the Caribbean Sea, inside it there are also various Mayan archaeological sites....this is only a small part of the information and then there is the reef with its importance and beauty, mangroves and their function Sian Ka’an “the gate of heaven” for the Mayans It is a beautiful experience to live IF YOU KEEP ALL THIS IN MIND otherwise if you rely on Guide Gabriel or rather on today’s companion because , Guide has not been, it boils down to just “photo hunting” to the dolphin/turtle/crocodile. Without understanding and even realizing the importance and beauty of this eco system!

Constructive Criticism? - We had a pretty cool guide but his time was split between 3 buses and 3 boats. Both the road and endless hours of boat ride to and thru the reserve were deathly bumpy. The road is not their fault but our captain decided to speed 2x faster than the other boats. It's no wonder his front seat was loose, tossing me up and down like a Caesar salad. I never get seasick but this on top of the bumpy road really messed me up fam. He also led us through snorkeling and I, a proficient swimmer, had trouble keeping up with him. The reefs were bleached and "not in season". So I pretty much stopped looking and gave all I had to keep up with the captain. The buffet lunch was not available due to Covid. We were served fish, mashed potato, cole slaw and what seemed like Chinese lo mien. At this point, I'm just glad the coke was cold and carbonated. We then walked across the island in the middle of the day to get picked up by the other boats. The islands were the nicest part of the trip but we spent little time there. The snorkeling gear seemed to have been disinfected by sea water. I didn't bring my personal gear because I assumed it would have been like the rentals offered at Dos Ojos- properly disinfected, sealed and packaged per use. I feel like they tackled too many things in one short trip. For 133 USD, I'm sure a lot of that goes into gas and little for the company, reserve entry, guide, bus driver, 2 captains, restaurant and islands. The reserve itself was beautiful but I couldn't enjoy it. I had a pretty rough start sitting in the back of the bus and my day just didn't get better. My friends think 3-3.5 stars for the tour is about right. It's not an experience you would expect for over $100. The other highly rated tours seem to be around 170 USD so choose wisely and rest well before the trip.

Needs much improvement - Our guide was very informative. We saw several marine/wildlife and was able to take photos. It seemed we were rushing from one place to the other. The afternoon also seemed like a waist of time rushing around the peninsula. The lunch was terrible for the price. And then tried selling lobster which should have been included in the meal.
