Prepare for a longgggg day & night. - Not sure if they just combined two Tours but our tour was supposed to be 10 hours total from 7:00 to 5 PM. We were picked up at 7:20am and didn’t get back to our hotel in Cancun until 10 o’clock at night! After all guests were picked up from our hotels, tour guide pulled the bus over to the side of the road and started going row by row collecting $50 per person for tickets on top of an additional $22.50 per person “for tax”! It kind of felt like a shakedown, they stopped in front of a bank, so folks could get the cash, before heading down to Tulum, so make sure you have enough cash on hand! Might have been our mistake, because we knew about the 50 bucks, but not sure if we should’ve also had to pay the $22.50, since we had already paid the tourist tax online. One couple happen to have their receipt for their tourist tax, not sure if they accepted it or if they had to pay again, but that felt like a bit of a racket… we didn’t actually start driving to Tulum until about 9 AM! Roger and Pablo were friendly enough, but we did notice that they gave more instruction in Spanish than they did in English, lucky for us we were bilingual but for folks only understanding English, felt like some of the more detailed information regarding our itinerary could’ve been better translated in English. Pro tip- Pack your own lunch, the box lunch provided was a rice crispy treat, a mini juice box, a mini apple and bologna, american cheese, on white bread sandwich, which did not look appetizing. We didn’t eat the sandwiches or apples. The Art w/ Me venue was beautiful! Wish we had more time there to explore, but there is a line to get to the sculpture and each person gets one minute to take pictures and then back on the bus but totally worth it! The ruins were amazing! Just be aware, there’s no signage on how to exit the ruins. We had to ask two separate tour guides, wish the guides would’ve told us the way you enter is not the way you exit. Quite a few of us were lost looking for the exit through the rock wall & one couple were left by our guides for not arriving back on time… be mindful on your time. We had late lunch at zenway in the middle of the jungle, which was not on our agenda, hence why I think we were cattled into a different tour, but food was good and appreciated after not eating the box lunch. We then headed to Casa Tortuga at about 4:30. Great venue, but if you go during winter months, be prepared, cenotes are very cold! Cool area in front to lounge and shop. By the time we got to Fifth Avenue, it was 7:15pm, (12 hrs since we were picked up). It had nice shops and restaurants. Since we missed our dinner reservation at our resort, we chose to eat at “Tacoyote restaurant” with quick service and great food and drinks, thank goodness, because we had 45 mins here before heading back to Cancun. It took us 2 hours to get back, we were exhausted, since we weren’t expecting to be gone 15 hours or we would’ve probably chosen a shorter tour. Another piece of advice for the tour guides, “Make sure to tell each and every person boarding bus, the bathroom is for #1 only & repeat saying this over and over! Some inconsiderate person went #2 on the bus, which put the bathroom out of order and stunk up the bus! Pretty gross! I felt sorry for our guides having to clean up that disaster… All in all, it was a good tour, Pablo and Roger made sure we got our time at the venues. Just make sure if you choose this tour, you may end up on the longer tour, which includes a nice lunch, but you will be gone all day and most of the night.
