The ruins of Tulum are some of the best preserved in the Peninsula. Most of the buildings date from the post-classical period of the Mayan civilization, around the years 1200 to 1450. The engravings and paintings that have been found explain that it was a place of worship and veneration of a supposed “Descent God”. .
