Highlights
  • Salina Turda - Turda was once the most important economic centre in this region. Salt, also known as
    white gold
, has been extracted from the Turda salt mine since the Roman Age. This mine, dating from the 17th century, was a decisive factor in the development of this town from Roman times until today and is now a veritable history museum of salt mining.
  • Primăria Rimetea - We spend the afternoon in the Transylvanian Western Carpathian mountains in the village of Rimetea. The chalk white houses and the harmonious structure of the village have earned it several distinctions; for instance, it was named
The most beautiful village in Transylvania
    and received the
    Europa Nostra Peris
    award.
  • Coltesti Castle Ruins - We hike around 1 hour to the ruins of the Colșesti fortress, giving us an impressive view of the valley bellow.

Relaxed, varied and memorable day trip. - An excellent day out, well organised and varied. The Turda Salt mine is really impressive and we arrived before the crowds. We enjoyed our lunch and had a nice walk around Rimetea village. Our guide, Radu, was friendly and very informative about the places we saw. We particularly enjoyed the hike to the Coltesti Fortress. Can recommend this company to provide an enjoyable and competitively priced day trip from Cluj.

It was a great day and excellent tour - It was a wonderful day guided by expertise Guide. We have learned a lot on the history of Romania. Our first stop in Salt Mine was a special impression. Continued to Rimetea Village where we visited a peaceful village. We had our next stop for Lunch at Székelykő Mansion Conacul Secuiesc. An excellent Romanian Hungarian cuisine with a friendly service from the restaurant. The final stop was at Trascău Fortress, we hiked to the top. It was a great day and we really enjoyed the full journey. Thank you to Cristian our best Guide.

Great guide and trip - Turds Salt Mines was surprisingly interesting and the village quite lovely. We also stopped at the ruins of a Roman legion camp in Turda which wasn't on the trip itinerary at our request which was appreciated. We decided not to walk up to ruined fortress as it was a 45 min.walk uphill. Had a lovely meal. Andre, our guide, was wonderful. We learned so much Romanian history from him

One of the best days during our stay in Transylvania area. - During our stay in Cluj-Napoca, one of the days was planned to make a day trip to nearby areas. As we decided, we don't want to drive ourselves, I started to search for a guided day tour and found George Turism Local Tours and our tour guide Christian. We knew, we wanted to see the salt mine and some natural areas, that would also be suitable for a bit older traveler (traveled with my mum) and this day trip was the only one that didn't include too heavy hiking, yet offered interesting things to see. And it was absolutely the best day trip that we could have asked for! Christian was an amazing guide and made us feel welcomed and well-taken care of from the moment he picked us up from our hotel door. His knowledge about the area and the things we saw, were amazing and he gives you just about enough information not to feel too overwhelmed. He was an amazing conversation partner during our drives from one sightseeing to another, talking about Romania and different world topics and answering all of our questions. The trip itself is very well planned, we got exactly what we wished for. The salt mine (trust me, no picture is worthy of the real thing), the small hike up on a Colțesti fortress for mountain views that were amazing (again, the photos won't do them justice), and a small ancient village of Rimetea. A little bit of museum vibe, a little bit of nature, a little bit of historic village romance, and a lot of amazing facts and stories from Christian. Thank you, Christian, for making our trip to Romania so memorable!
