Glad I visited! - This was my family's first ever time visiting a rescue center. We had a fantastic experience there. Every animal they showed you had its own story, and all the guides were so friendly and knowledgeable. Honestly, after visiting this, I'm motivated to volunteer at my local animal rescue center and experience this bond with the animals. All the animals there were so lively, and they genuinely enjoyed being there.

AMAZING Costa Rica volunteer program - This is one of the best volunteer programs I have signed up for. I worked in the veterinary clinic alongside the vet and got to help rescue and rehabilitate indigenous animals. It's an amazing learning experience. The people that run the center are very friendly and helpful and I had fun meeting so many new people! It is cost effective for those that want to volunteer. I recommend this program for everyone!

Great sloth viewing - Great place for younger children. The guide explained everything to them and answered all their questions. We saw three young sloths who were napping on blankets outside of the nursery.

Great experience at the Costa Rica Animal Rescue Center - I volunteered for two weeks at the Costa Rica Animal Center. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had. Worked with a variety of animals and spent a lot of time working with sloths. It was very rewarding to be able to assist the center in maintaining of all of the animals they take care of. The owners and staff were great to work with and are really focused on the wellbeing of the animals. Some for a variety of reasons will need to stay at the center but others will be released which is great. Also, met a lot of great people who were volunteering!!

Visit? Yes! Volunteer here? No! - We just finished a one week volunteer experience here. If you’re coming just for a tour to see the animals, come. Ask your guide how long they’ve been there. Probably not more than 3 days to 4 weeks. You will see lots of animals up close. Hopefully you luck out and get a more engaging tour guide. The volunteer turnover is very high. If you are looking for an amazing animal volunteer opportunity, DO NOT come here. The whole experience is run and led by the whim of the volunteer that has been there longest (1 week to 6 weeks). And they accept as many paying volunteers as possible so there’s a strong possibility you will do nothing all day. If you’re going to spend your money and time volunteering, keep looking. I’ve never volunteered somewhere before that I thought was a waste of my time. This is too far to travel to be a waste.

Not recommendable - The two of us were happy to pay the $60 entrance fee to support the animals and hope that it really does benefit the animals. We were very disappointed with the “tour”. Our guide seemed very unmotivated and ended the tour, which was advertised as lasting an hour, after just 40 minutes. We cannot judge whether the animals are kept in a species-appropriate manner, but we have the impression that the enclosures, at least in German zoos, are significantly larger. We would not do the tour again, but would rather invest the money and time in a well-trained guide in one of the national parks.
