As a seasoned traveler and wine enthusiast, I have had the pleasure of exploring some of the most exquisite vineyards across Europe. Yet, the allure of Montenegro’s wine country, with its promise of unique history and breathtaking landscapes, beckoned me to embark on a new adventure. The Montenegro Wine Tasting experience promised a private tour of Vranac, Barrique, and traditional delicacies, and I was eager to immerse myself in the rich tapestry of flavors and stories that awaited.

Our journey began with a scenic drive through the picturesque city of Budva, a place where the azure waters of the Adriatic Sea meet the rugged mountains. As we made our way to the capital city of Podgorica, the anticipation of discovering Montenegro’s largest vine producer, Šipčanik, grew with each passing mile. The landscape unfolded like a painting, with rolling vineyards stretching as far as the eye could see, each vine whispering tales of the land’s storied past.

The Vranac Pro Corde, a special selection, was a symphony of flavors, perfectly complemented by bruschetta adorned with Njeguši cheese, olive oil, and rosemary.

Leaving Šipčanik, our journey continued to the family-run Kopitović winery, a place where tradition and passion intertwine to create wines that are as authentic as they are memorable. The Kopitović family welcomed us with open arms, eager to share their love for winemaking and the stories that have been passed down through generations.

As we toured the vineyard, the owner regaled us with tales of the land and the meticulous care that goes into each bottle. The tasting here was a celebration of Montenegro’s winemaking heritage, with three distinct wines that captured the essence of the region. A white wine, with its delicate floral notes, danced on the palate, while the two reds, each with their own unique character, offered a deeper understanding of the land’s diverse offerings.

Lunch was a feast for the senses, featuring a traditional meal called sač. The veal, tender and succulent, was cooked to perfection alongside potatoes and vegetables, each bite a testament to the region’s culinary prowess. A seasonal salad, fresh and vibrant, provided a refreshing contrast, while the homemade bread and dessert rounded out the meal with a touch of rustic charm.
