Highlights
  • Dierkes Lake - Start your hike on a clearly marked moderate loop trail that leads you to two secluded lakes, one featuring remarkable geological formations and the other home to bird wildlife in a marshy haven.

Climb the trail to the southern edge of the Snake River Canyon and gaze down at breathtaking views of the meandering Snake River.

Watch for birds of prey gliding through the Snake River Canyon as you admire hidden waterfalls cascading from its canyon walls below.

  • Shoshone Falls - Drive a short mile from Dierkes Lake to Shoshone Falls, often called “the Niagara of the West”.

Here, you’ll be immersed in ancient volcanic geological history as your interpretive guide takes you back over 15,000 years to when Lake Bonneville overflowed its rim about 300 miles away, carving out Idaho’s landscape and creating this magnificent natural wonder, ranked among the top three waterfalls in the United States.

Step onto the main viewing platform for an up-close experience and stunning views just yards from the top of the cascading falls. This renowned waterfall stands 212 feet tall and stretches 950 feet across the Snake River Canyon.

  • Shoshone Falls Park - Situated at Shoshone Falls, this charming park is next to Shoshone Falls. Here, you can buy snacks and souvenirs to remember your visit to Shoshone Falls.

Discover our local history and culture through interpretive boards, including the construction of the Shoshone Falls Powerplant and Dam.

Built in 1907, Shoshone Falls was the first power plant in Idaho’s Magic Valley. It was acquired by Idaho Power in 1916 and rebuilt in 1921. The Shoshone Falls Power Plant is located on the Snake River near Twin Falls, Idaho, at river mile 614.7. The plant features a diversion dam and a powerhouse.

Great hike - This was a great experience. Our guide really knew the history and gave us a lot of information about the area. Just a note from an Inexperienced hiker like me, you need to wear jeans and sturdy shoes. We went in early June, which was a great time to go.
