Ubud is renowned for its association with the arts, particularly painting. It also provides a chance to discover its splendid countryside. The first point of interest is the traditional Balinese homes, architecturally distinct from modern ones. Proceeding towards central Ubud, we visit the Puri Lukisan museum; a showcase of work from famed Balinese painters and sculptors. Neighbouring the museum is Puri Saren Ubud – the palace of Ubud’s latter-day king. Home to remarkable Balinese artistry, this palace is indeed a sight to behold. The Ubud art market is situated just across the palace; an abundance of Balinese artwork can be found here.
Departing central Ubud, a journey to the countryside and rice fields leads to Petulu village, the habitat of white herons. They typically return to the village around 4 PM and depart the next morning around 9 AM.
