Jagdish Temple - The stunning Shri Jagdish Temple is a prime example of Hindu Iconography, featuring three levels of intricate hand-carved stone and an impressive 79-foot high steeple. As the largest temple in Udaipur, it serves as a focal point for many lanes branching off from the city wall known as sheharpanah. Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace - Perched atop Bansdara hills, just outside Udaipur, stands a 19th-century palace with a rich history. Originally intended to be an astronomical center by its builder Maharana Sajjan Singh, the palace was later used as a monsoon retreat and hunting lodge. Despite the cancellation of its original purpose due to the untimely death of Maharana Sajjan Singh, this palace remains an impressive sight on the Udaipur skyline. With a wall that is about 38 km long, it holds the title for being the second-longest in the world and has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ranakpur Jain Temple - On your next visit, make sure to see the Jain Temple in Ranakpur. This 15th-century temple was commissioned by Seth Dharna Shah, a follower of Jainism and a successful businessman. With the help of Rana Kumbha, king of Mewar at that time, he built this magnificent temple with four entrances leading to its main chamber where an idol of Adinath can be found. The construction of this temple holds great significance as it fulfilled King Rana Kumbha’s condition for providing assistance - that the temple would bear his name. Mehrangarh Fort - Mehrangarh Fort, which translates to “fort of the sun,” was named as such due to its mythical connection with the clan’s descent from the sun god Surya. Spanning over 500 yards in length, this fort boasts walls that reach up to 120 feet and are a staggering 70 feet thick. These formidable defenses were crucial for Rao Jodha’s successors, although they were not always enough to protect against potential threats.
