Travel to Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba Hut
Rwenzori Mountains National Park - After breakfast, drive to Nyakalengija, situated at 1,646m. Begin a 5 to 6-hour hike on the Mountains of the Moon. Ascend along rocky paths, cross the Mubuku River, and pass through equatorial vegetation where you might spot blue monkeys and the Rwenzori Turaco, among others. Arrive at Nyabitaba Hut for dinner and an overnight stay.
Depart Nyabitaba Hut for John Matte Hut
Rwenzori Mountains National Park - Enjoy breakfast and embark on a 9-hour hike through muddy areas with stunning views of the Mubuku River, then through a bamboo forest, reaching the steep rocky terrain leading to Nyamuleju Hut. Continue hiking to reach John Matte Hut at 3,414m, offering spectacular views of the snow-capped Margherita, Elena, and Mount Stanley peaks. Dine and rest at John Matte Hut.
From John Matte Hut to Bujuku Hut
Rwenzori Mountains National Park - It takes approximately 5 to 6 hours to ascend the 6km trail to Bujuku Hut, located at 3,962m. From John Matte Hut, cross the Bujuku River and descend to Bigo Bog, enjoying the magnificent views of the peaks. Continue hiking near Lake Bujuku, where the beautiful Alpine savannah vegetation begins. Arrive at Bujuku Hut, where you can see Mount Speke, Mount Stanley, and Mount Baker peaks. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the hut.
From Bujuku Hut to Elena Hut
Rwenzori Mountains National Park - After an early breakfast, traverse the groundsel vegetation on a 4km path. Ascend to 4,372m at Scot Elliot Pass, situated between Mount Stanley and Baker. Reach Elena Hut at 4,540m for dinner and an overnight stay.
Depart Elena Hut for Kitandara Hut
Rwenzori Mountains National Park - Set off from Elena for a 3-hour hike, climbing the final region of ice and rock on Mount Stanley to reach Margherita Peak at 5,109m. After experiencing the summit, descend through the muddy grounds of Lower and Upper Kitandara Lake to Kitandara Hut. Relax and rest after dinner at Kitandara Hut.
From Kitandara Hut to Guy Yeoman, then to Nyabitaba
Rwenzori Mountains National Park - In the morning, begin a 6-hour hike through the Freshfield Pass at 4,282m, descending through boggy and rocky areas. Enjoy the stunning glaciers of Mounts Baker, Savoy, and Stanley. Continue along a muddy path leading to Kabamba, Akendahi, and Bujongolo rock shelters. Proceed through the Kabamba Valley to reach Guy Yeoman Hut at 3,261m, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes of rivers, vegetation, and mountains. Have dinner and stay overnight at the hut.
Depart Guy Yeoman Hut for Nyakalengija
Rwenzori Mountains National Park - Depart early from Guy Yeoman Hut to Nyakalengija, enjoying the beautiful views of flowers, plants, bamboo forests, and the Kinchuchu and Mubuku Rivers. Along the way, see the Kabamba wafer falls. Arrive at Nyabitaba Hut in about 4 hours, then take another 40 minutes to visit Mahoma Lake. Return to the hut and descend to the park headquarters in 2 to 3 hours. Your guide will be waiting at the base camp to transfer you to Queen Elizabeth, where you will spend the night at your lodge.
Game Drive and Boat Cruise on Kazinga Channel
Kazinga Channel - After breakfast, embark on an early game drive to see buffaloes, lions, various antelopes, elephants, warthogs, and numerous bird species. Return to the lodge for lunch, then enjoy a 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel in the afternoon, where you will see giant crocodiles, many hippos, buffaloes, elephants, and beautiful birds up close. Have dinner and stay overnight at your lodge.
Return to Kampala / Entebbe
Rwenzori Mountains National Park - After breakfast, start your journey back to Kampala, stopping at the Equator for photographs and in Mbarara or Masaka for lunch. Your driver-guide will drop you off at your hotel in Kampala or at the airport in Entebbe if your flight is on the same day!
