Journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - Begin the Gorilla Tracking and Kibale Chimps trek safari with an early breakfast, departing from Kampala and heading west to Bwindi, a journey of approximately 9-10 hours. There will be a brief stop at the Equator, offering a unique chance to stand in both hemispheres simultaneously and capture some memorable photos. Continue the journey through the lush, rolling hills that define this region. Enjoy a lunch break in Mbarara town before proceeding to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, arriving in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Broadbill Forest Camp.
Gorilla Trekking and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
Lake Bunyonyi - After an early morning breakfast, proceed to the Park headquarters to join other trackers for a briefing on gorilla trekking rules at 7:45 am. Trek through dense creepers and undergrowth with guides to locate the Gorillas, which may take 1-8 hours. The steeply forested terrain is dense but interwoven with numerous animal trails for tourist access. Spend one hour with the Gorillas once found, then transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. The drive traverses a stunning part of the country, often called ‘the Switzerland of Africa’ due to its unique cool climate despite its proximity to the Equator. This lake is renowned as one of the most beautiful spots in western Uganda. It is the second deepest lake in Africa [900 meters deep] and one of the few places in the country safe for swimming as it is free from bilharzia. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Hawk’s Eye Lodge.
Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park and Bigodi Swamp Walk
Kibale National Park - After breakfast, travel to Kibale Forest National Park, arriving in the early afternoon. On the way to Kibale National Park, enjoy the breathtaking view of the legendary “Mountains of the Moon,” clearly visible on the road to Fort Portal. Have lunch in Fort Portal, then proceed to Kibale National Park to explore the unique Bigodi swamp eco-tourism site, where you can observe rare plants and bird species such as the Great Blue Turaco, Little Bulbul, Rwenzori Turaco, and the Narina Trogon, among others. Dinner and overnight stay will be at.
Chimpanzee Tracking and Travel to Kampala
Entebbe - After breakfast, head to Kibale Forest to observe the primates. The activity begins at 8:00 am with a briefing on the rules for trekking chimpanzees, followed by a search for them in the forest. The activity lasts half a day, during which you may also encounter other primates such as Grey-cheeked Mangabeys, Phoestes, Red-Colobus, and Blue-tailed and Red-tailed monkeys swinging in the branches of the dense forest. Your guide will provide informative briefings on the lifestyles of the primates, as well as insights into the plants, insects, and butterflies in the forest, ensuring the trek is both enjoyable and educational. Return to the lodge for lunch, then set off for Kampala, arriving late in the afternoon.
