Located in Uganda’s south-west corner, the Mgahinga mountain national park is popular not only for its mountain gorilla safaris but also for individuals seeking a mountain climbing journey. The climb leads you through dense forests and down the remarkably deep and lush Sabinyo Gorge, a remarkable place for bird-watching. This excursion offers abundant birding possibilities and the chance to discover the renowned Rwenzori Turaco bird. The trail will also traverse the Rugezi Swamp, an additional brilliant bird-watching area. In addition, you will enjoy captivating views of Kisoro and Bunagana towns, not to mention the stunning appearance of Lake Mutanda.
The whole mountain trekking experience in the park could span 6 days, given there are three mountains to ascend. At the completion of your journey, you would have scaled Gahinga, standing at 3.473m, Sabyinyo at 3.669m, and lastly, Muhab(v)ura, reaching up to 4.127m.
