• Zhytomyr Oblast - Begin your journey early in the morning from Kyiv and drive 148 km to the small village of Huyva in the Zhytomyr region. Here, you’ll find the well-preserved headquarters of SS Heinrich Himmler, known as “Hegewald,” which is the only intact Nazi headquarters in Ukraine. Access is limited as part of the bunker is used by an active military unit, but another entrance is open to visitors. In late summer 1942, a general assembly of SS leaders convened here to discuss and approve plan “Ost” – the colonization of occupied territories.
• Hulivtsi - The second Nazi bunker, Goering’s “Steinbruch,” lies in ruins within an inaccessible forest near the village of Hulivtsi. It was destroyed by retreating Nazi troops in 1944. Although you can’t explore this Luftwaffe headquarters, your guide will share significant historical facts about it.
• Werwolf (Hitler’s Military Headquarters) - The final stop of the day is Hitler’s main residence in Ukraine, the “Werwolf” headquarters, located near the village of Strizhavka, 75 miles from “Hegewald.” This site was almost entirely demolished by retreating German forces in March 1944, but it now features an intriguing museum with many informative displays. Visitors can also see the remnants of a swimming pool and a mass grave of prisoners of war who constructed this hidden bunker.
