One such event is the Ice Festival, an annual celebration starting in 2002, taking place each year on the first weekend of March along the western banks of the icy Lake Khuvsgul in northern Mongolia. The Gobi is not only renowned for its breathtaking landscape, but also for its rich biodiversity, ancient dinosaur remains, local nomadic culture, and camel population. Among the events celebrating this heritage is the celebrated Camel Festival, hosted by local herders since approximately twenty years ago, on the 7th and 8th of March annually, with the goal of conserving the distinctive two-humped Bactrian camels indigenous to Mongolia.
