Elsen Tasarkhai - Kharkhorin city, also known as Karakorum, was the capital of the Great Mongolian Empire in the 13th century. It is situated on the right bank of the Orkhon River, 400 km southwest of Ulaanbaatar, the current capital of Mongolia. In 1380, Karakorum was destroyed, but about two centuries later, the yurt of Avtai Khan, founder of the Erdene Zuu Monastery, was established on the same site. Kharkhorin city is rich in historical and sightseeing spots. The Elsen Tasarkhai sand dunes present a semi-desert landscape with large sand dunes. We will have lunch en route and then transfer to another family ger. Optional camel riding is available before dinner. After dinner, we can hike around the sand dunes and possibly witness a stunning sunset.
