Embark on a journey to Khustai National Park. This is the location where in 1993, a handful of the surviving wild horses, known as ‘Przewalski horses’, were transported from multiple European zoos and re-established in their ancestral homeland, following their extinction for half a century. The present day marks the most triumphant wildlife conservation project ever conducted in Mongolia, boasting over 300 wild horses that resiliently inhabit the wilderness, withstanding both predators and a challenging climate. Remarkably, the park also houses 220 varieties of birds, 1200 Red deer, and 20,000 marmots. Upon arrival, we will receive a brief overview of the park’s operations, followed by a wildlife observation hike through verdant grass valleys intermittently set with craggy ridges, providing cover to patches of birch forests. Anticipate encountering wildlife species such as Przewalski’s horse, Red deer, marmots, and birds including the Golden Eagle, Steppe Eagle, Cinereous Vulture, Upland Buzzard, Saker Falcon, and a variety of smaller falcons. A delectable lunch will be served at the park’s restaurant.
