The Festival is made up of three core games sometimes referred to as the “Three Manly Sports.” These include traditional wrestling, horse racing, and archery. Both archery and the fourth game of the festival, known as ankle bone shooting, are set up in the corridors of the Central Stadium and are definite crowd-pullers. Hundreds of herders from various regions bring their racehorses to compete in the grandest race of the year. The races, stretched over distances up to 15-20 miles, occur in the plains in six different age categories. We strongly advise reserving spots for our Naadam Festival Tour in advance. The people of Central Asia have adopted the NOMADIC lifestyle in response to the severe and unpredictable climatic conditions of their homeland. The nomads constantly move in search of superior grazing lands and water bodies for their livestock. Over centuries of survival, the harsh environment, landscape, and daily struggles have toughened them into resilient and self-sustaining nomads. They’ve contributed to a rich and distinct cultural heritage that is unique globally.
