Elsen Tasarkhai - Kharkhorin- Tsenkher Hot Springs
Kharkhorin - At dawn, after breakfast, we set out from Elsen Tasarkhai towards Tsenkher Hot Springs. On the way, we pass through the historic town of Kharkhorin, once the capital of the 13th-century Mongol Empire known as Karakorum. Our first stop is the Kharkhorin museum, which showcases artifacts and the history of the ancient city of Karakorum. We briefly observe the turtle stone monument, a significant relic of Karakorum, and visit the Erdene Zuu Monastery, built in 1586.
Tsenkher Hot Spring - From Kharkhorin, we head to Tsenkher Hot Springs, an open-air thermal spring located amid vast grasslands, offering an enchanting experience under the starry night sky. This tour is designed to indulge in the pleasures of open-air hot springs. The hot spring water, sourced from the mountains, is a natural mineral infusion known for its benefits to various skin conditions. It promotes skin health and beauty and is also effective for managing skin conditions.
Tsenkher Hot Spring - Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur (Terkh Lake)
Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur National Park - After an early breakfast, we head towards Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur, also known as Terkh White Lake. The name “White Lake” comes from the lake’s remarkably clear, pristine water. Located in the Khangai Mountains in central Mongolia, this deep lake was formed by volcanic activity at an elevation of 2,000 meters, featuring expansive and crystal-clear waters reminiscent of the sea. Surrounded by volcanic formations, the area has been designated a national park and was recognized as one of the top travel destinations by CNN in 2011.
Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake - Murun (Khuvsgul)
Murun town- Khuvsgul Lake
Khuvsgul Lake - After breakfast, a 1-hour drive brings us to the shores of Khuvsgul Lake, nestled within the basin of the Khoridol Saridag Mountains at an elevation of 3,200 meters above sea level. Upon arrival, we settle in at a tourist camp, allowing ample time for relaxation after our extensive journey. Khuvsgul Lake is renowned as the clearest lake not only in Mongolia but also across Asia. Its crystal-clear waters, with visibility extending up to 20 meters, reveal the lake’s diverse aquatic life from the water’s edge. A remarkable array of 69 species of plankton micro-organisms thrives at depths of up to 5 meters, contributing to the lake’s natural water purification process. Despite being home to 12 fish species, fishing activities are limited. Our overnight stay at the lakeside tourist camp offers a chance to fully appreciate the serene beauty of the surroundings. Activities include boat excursions, mountain trekking, and horseback riding.
Khuvsgul Lake - Bulgan
Bulgan Province - We now proceed to our next destination, the Bulgan province, where Mongolia’s largest river, the Selenge Gol, flows through the northern part of the aimag, while the Orkhon and Tuul rivers wind through the southern regions. Bulgan aimag is known for its abundance of picturesque locations, including Eg-Selenge, Eg-Tarvagatai meadow, Uran-Togoo, Khugnukhan, Khuiji, Uurt, and various springs scattered throughout the province. Noteworthy historical landmarks include remnants from the Stone Age, ancient ruins, the site of Baibalyk (the ancient city of the Uighur State), and the remains of Prince Tsogt’s residence. Bulgan is a revered pilgrimage site for Mongolians due to its rich historical sites.
Bulgan (Uran togoo volcano)- Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex- Terelj National Park
Chinggis Khaan Statue - Early in the morning, we leave the Bulgan province area and head to our next destination. The next stop is the Chinggis Khaan Equestrian Statue, a massive monument standing 40 meters tall. In addition to visiting the statue, you will also explore the “small museum of history” located in the monument’s base building.
Gorkhi-Terelj National Park - Following this, we proceed to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, where lunch is served at a restaurant within a tourist camp. Positioned at the southern end of the Siberian taiga, Gorkhi-Terelj National Park is the closest and most renowned tourist attraction from Ulaanbaatar. The region boasts a captivating natural landscape featuring sparse forests, mountain valleys, rocky cliffs, rivers, and streams. After the meal, we venture to witness the intriguing rock formation known as Turtle Rock and conclude the day at the horse hitching post, where you can leisurely enjoy a horse ride.
