• Genghis Khan Statue Complex - On the way to Terelj National Park, we visit to a gigantic mounted statue of Genghis Khan. The Great Khan is depicted in his probably fifties looking in the direction of his birth place and resting his right hand on a golden whip he found here as legend suggests. Optionally, we visit inside the complex to an observation deck and a small museum. The observation deck on the horse head allows panoramic views of vast steppe and rolling hills. The museum exhibits everyday utensils, belt buckles, knives and sacred animal statues of Bronze Age and Hunnu period as well as archaeological findings of the later Mongol Empire era.

Just a short one-hour drive from Ulaanbaatar, you’ll reach Terelj NP, an easily accessible segment of the vast 2 million hectare Khan Khenty strictly protected area. Terelj, named after a rhododendron, is a small yet stunningly beautiful section of the park, ideal for activities like hiking and horseback riding. Its close proximity to the capital city contributes to its popularity for day trips. This expansive mountainous expanse is sprinkled with uniquely shaped rock formations, often given names based on their appearance. Upon reaching the park, you can enjoy adventure-filled hikes, visit a picturesque Buddhist temple perched on a cliff, and optionally embark on a brief horseback riding tour. A local holiday resort will cater your lunch, with spectacular rock formations serving as the backdrop. The trip concludes with a return to Ulaanbaatar in the late afternoon.
