Enjoyable cooking class visiting markets first to buy ingredients then learning to make various curries - We enjoyed our Sri Lankan cooking class, where we went to the market first to select our fresh fish of tuna followed by the Dutch market to buy our vegetables. Once we returned to the cooking school we learnt to make 5 different curries and a salad with the ingredients bought. We were guided by recommended dishes to make based on our ingredients. We learnt to make tuna curry, Dahl being her special recipe, pumpkin curry, sweet potato curry, green bean curry and eggplant salad. As each curry was cooked we got to sample along the way. Once all our meals were prepared, we ended the class by cooking our papaddum, to then sit down to enjoy our meal. Everything was delicious, but the group agreed the Dahl and eggplant salad were the highlights. An enjoyable 3 hours spent where we learnt the curries aren't that difficult to make when we get home

Fabulous - We had a great time cooking a selection of traditional Sri Lankan dishes. Our host was charming and a very talented chef. A visit to the market in a Tuktuk to collect the ingredients was a highlight of the day. We cooked the best lunch and will hopefully replicate these dishes at home. Thank you letting us be a part of this wonderful experience. Mark & Lucy

Highly recommend this experience - Let me start by saying that the food we created at the cooking school has been the best Sri Lankan food we have eaten on our 1 month trip! We started out with a trip to the local veggie market followed by a comprehensive, interactive and fun lesson in Sri Lankan cuisine. If you’re looking for an epicurean touch to your vacation, we highly recommend Sea Waves Cooking Class to add to your list. Whilst we didn’t dine at the restaurant, we can only imagine, if the food cooked in the class is anything to go by, the restaurant will be amazing. We will be dining there before we leave Sri Lanka.

A perfect ending of my time in Sri Lanka - After selecting fresh vegetables from the market the actual cooking started. It really had everything: A perfect amount of explanation, showing and self-doing, humour and a lot of respect for each other but also for the food we were preparing. The kitchen was clean, nice and spacious. I am so grateful to have booked the class with sea waves <3

A must do experience. - Our experience with Susanthi at Sea Waves Cooking Class was truly unforgettable! Susanthi is an incredible woman who not only runs an amazing cooking class but is also deeply involved in meaningful work within the community. We felt so lucky to connect with her. The cooking class is an absolute must do if you're in the south of Sri Lanka. We started with a visit to the local market to select fresh produce, then learned traditional Sri Lankan cooking methods and recipes. Every dish we made was absolutely delicious, and the hands on experience made it even more special. Highly recommend!

The instructor Susanthi is a lovely friendly and warm person who is a great cook and patiently took the class through all the steps to produce our delicious dishes. Her place is set up beautifully in a natural and atmospheric venue. I will definitely be trying out the recipes when I get home to Australia.

Great cooking class - I went on this cooking class when solo traveling in Sri Lanka. The hostess was so welcoming and warm. First she took me to the local fruit and vegetables market where I got to choose what kind of curry i would like to cook. We did fully vegetarian, since due to bad weather the fish on the market, unfortunately, was not fresh. Back at the kitchen I learnt all about the different spices and the secrets to a delicious curry, she was so patient and answered all my questions with a smile on her face. I felt as a part of her family and I really enjoyed every step. Great cook and a great teacher. Highly recommend!
