Discovering Hidden Gems: A Day at Rincón de la Vieja
Drawn by the allure of Costa Rica’s natural beauty, I embarked on the Rincón de la Vieja Tour, eager to explore its hidden gems. From horseback rides to hot springs, this adventure promised a day of relaxation and discovery.
Riding into the Heart of Costa Rica
The day began with a sense of anticipation as we boarded the luxury motorcoach, ready to embark on the Rincón de la Vieja Adventure. The journey to the base of the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano was a scenic 1.5-hour drive, filled with lush landscapes and the promise of adventure. Our guide, Christian, was a gem—his knowledge of the Guanacaste region was both informative and engaging, making the drive feel like a breeze. He even indulged our eclectic taste in music, turning the ride into a mobile fiesta.
Upon arrival, the real adventure began. We mounted our horses and set off on a 45-minute ride through the verdant trails. The rhythm of the horse’s gait, the rustle of leaves, and the distant call of exotic birds created a symphony of nature that was both calming and exhilarating. As a surfer, I’m used to the ocean’s roar, but this was a different kind of music—one that resonated with the soul.
A Waterfall’s Whisper
The horseback ride led us to a majestic waterfall, a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of the forest. The sight was breathtaking, a cascade of water that seemed to dance in the sunlight. We paused here, taking in the beauty and snapping a few photos to capture the moment. The waterfall’s whisper was a gentle reminder of nature’s power and grace.
After soaking in the waterfall’s beauty, we embarked on a short hike to the hot springs. The trail was easy, a gentle walk that allowed us to savor the surroundings. The hot springs were a welcome retreat, a series of natural pools with varying temperatures. We luxuriated in the warm waters, letting the heat seep into our bones and melt away any lingering tension. It was a moment of pure relaxation, a chance to unwind and connect with the earth.
Mud, Laughter, and New Friends
The adventure didn’t end there. Next up were the therapeutic mud baths, a playful experience that brought out the child in all of us. We slathered ourselves in the rich, mineral-laden mud, laughing and posing for selfies. It was a messy, joyous affair, one that left us feeling rejuvenated and a little bit silly.
As the day wound down, we rinsed off in the swimming pool, the cool water a refreshing contrast to the hot springs. We shared stories and laughter, bonding over the day’s adventures. By the end of the tour, we were more than just a group of travelers—we were a family, brought together by the magic of Costa Rica.
This tour was a reminder of why I love this nomadic lifestyle. It’s not just about the waves or the beaches; it’s about the connections we make and the experiences we share. Until the next adventure, keep chasing those dreams and riding those waves.
