A Warm Welcome and a Splash of Adventure

As soon as we arrived at the rafting base at 9 Jupiter Grove, we were greeted with warm smiles and an infectious enthusiasm from Hamish and Jon, our guides for the day. They made us feel right at home, and their passion for the river was evident from the get-go. We were quickly outfitted with all the necessary gear—wetsuits, booties, fleece tops, splash jackets, helmets, and life jackets. My kids were thrilled to be donning their adventure gear, and I could see the excitement bubbling up in their eyes.

The weather had been particularly favorable, and Hamish had emailed us in advance to offer an upgrade to a level 3 raft. This meant we would get to experience some of the more thrilling rapids that aren’t always available. It was a chance we couldn’t pass up, and I was eager to step outside my comfort zone and embrace the adventure.

Riding the Rapids and Making Memories

The rafting experience was nothing short of spectacular. As we floated down the Te Awa Kairangi, the gentle rapids provided just the right amount of thrill for our family. The kids were giggling with delight as we navigated the twists and turns of the river. Hamish and Jon were not only skilled guides but also fantastic storytellers, sharing tales of the river’s history and the surrounding landscape.

At one point, we stopped for a photo opportunity at a picturesque waterfall. The kids were eager to try the rock jumps, and with the guides’ encouragement, they took the plunge. Their laughter echoed off the canyon walls, and I couldn’t help but join in. It was a moment of pure joy and one that I knew would be etched in our memories forever.

A Safe and Unforgettable Experience

What truly set this experience apart was the sense of safety and security that Hamish and Jon provided. They were attentive to every detail, ensuring that we were comfortable and confident throughout the journey. Even though the rapids were outside my usual comfort zone, their expertise made it all seem easy and enjoyable.

As we reached the end of our river adventure, I found myself wishing we could do it all over again. The beauty of the river, the thrill of the rapids, and the camaraderie with our guides made for an unforgettable day. It was a “flipping good time,” as Hamish would say, and one that I would highly recommend to any family looking for a unique and exhilarating experience.
