This long-running and award-winning whale watching tour heads out to Platypus Bay, situated on the western side of K’gari (Fraser Island.) Marine life abounds in the region, from the little-known Australian humpback dolphins to the well-known humpback whales that visit during the winter months. Throughout the day you will be offered the opportunity to see the whales, including from an immersive platform. An informative talk is given by your skipper, who shares more than 30 years of experience working with marine mammals. Your guide’s knowledge and passion of the animals and the marine environment ensures a unique experience. Reference material is also available along with a hydrophone on board to hear the migratory mammals underwater. An intimate day tour for those who want to be one of the few not the many.

This seasonal whale watching tour takes you aboard a 24-passenger sailing catamaran from Hervey Bay to Platypus Bay at K’gari (Fraser Island).
Limited guests allows for a truly intimate tour with one on one conversations to hear about these majestic animals. An immersive platform lets you observe a humpback whale underwater while you listen to the male humpback whale sing by hydrophone. Morning and afternoon tea are served along with a buffet lunch and beverage during the full-day tour.
- Children must be accompanied by an adult (best suited to children 8 years and older)

Great Whale 🐳 watching experience - Very well organized! lots of (delicious) food on board ! Very friendly & informative hosts. We were very lucky to see lots of Whales 🐳 very close!

A trip you’ll want to do again - By the end of the day I could understand why half the guests were repeat customers. The boat is very comfortable with lots of space to sit outside and spot every whale, or shelter out of the sun and watch the excitement through the windows. Seeing and hearing the whales less than a metre away while sitting on the back steps was an incredible experience. They hung around the boat and seemed to watch us with as much interest as we did them! Cassie and Annika were our hosts the day we booked and their hospitality was excellent. The snacks (fresh fruits, cake and bickie bites) kept coming all day and the lunch was also really tasty (abundance of salads, salmon, assorted chicken and ham). We probably saw 6 or 7 pods over the course of the day and spent hours watching them as they checked us out too. I’m going to be one of those repeat guests too! Highly recommend the experience.

Whales and Rainbows 🌈 🐋 - I went on a private whale cruise with Blue Dolphin Cruises. Every part of our day was magic. Pete and Cassie looked after us so well, and our whale 🐋 encounter was amazing.
The whales came so close to the boat and performed every pose they could. The food was delicious.
If you want a special whale watching day, choose Blue Dilphin, you won't regret it 💙 🐋💖

Extraordinary Whale Encounters - This is the second time I have been out whale watching with Blue Dolphin and I cannot recommend the whale watching day experience more highly. The staff work tirelessly and offer snacks and lunch throughout the day and you are looked after extremely professionally. As for the whale watching, Pete the Captain has the knowledge and contacts to find and interact with the most curious and co-operative whales around on the day. Just book it!

Fabulous day out - Second time out with Blue Dolphin. Fantastic day and cant recommend highly enough. Knowledgeable crew who allow safe respectful encounters with whales - and dolphins on our trip. Good food (and plenty of it) on real plates. Really living their sustainable ethos. Very comfortable boat with small numbers so you never feel crowded and always have a fantastic view. The longer trip means you have plenty of time to cruise around to find whales, and hang around with them when you do find them. Been out with a number of companies but they are now our favourite.

Forget the rest, choose the best. - I work around Australia as a Wildlife Tour Guide and have worked in wildlife tourism most of my life as such I unfortunately have quite high standards.
When recently travelling through Hervey Bay I decided to do a Whale Watching day tour with Blue Dolphin and I was seriously impressed.
The customer service, the marine mammal interpretation and the quality of the encounters was like nothing I have ever experienced.
I truly underestimated how phenomenal this tour would be.
I recommend ANYONE considering a whale tour in Hervey Bay, please use your money wisely and choose Blue Dolphin, you will not regret it.
Again, a huge thank you to Pete and the team, everything was above and beyond.

Playing with whales - Absolutely amazing. We had a pod of 3 whales play with us for 2 hours. They seemed to be watching us rather than us watching them. Wonderful experience.

Sensational experience - My husband and I had the most fantastic day seeing the whales with Blue Dolphin. The crew Peter and Cassie were absolutely first class from the pick up at our caravan park, the commentary and information about the whales, the food, the comfort on the boat and of course ensuring we saw so many whales!
We saw heaps of whales up very close to the boat and Peter made sure to keep a constant eye out and to take us to see the most active whales.
We could not fault this tour it was absolutely sensational. Thank you Peter and team :)

An incredible tour - This tour was just unforgettable! A very nice boat on which everyone, of the smaller number of guests , had comfortable space and could see everything everywhere. Peter knew where to go and whenever a whale was closer he would immediately turn off the engine, walk around the top of the top and always say where the whale was. So everyone could see back and forth and the animal at all times. I especially loved him that he didn't care after work ( 8 hours tour) . There's another whale, so go. We came back at least an hour later. Unfortunately I don't know the name of his companion, but she was so extremely nice, cared for us constantly with ample food, answered every question and was very caring. A big thank you for everything. Please also to Peter’s daughter, who kindly drove us back to the hotel.
And the whales, indescribable, emotional, just wonderful. A day none of us will forget.
