Have a wonderful time with local people and llamas - We had a lovely day walking with llamas. The walk was not too long, though the altitude made it quite long enough! The llamas were funny and cute and interesting, and we learned a lot about this project. This group is working on breeding bigger llamas that can be used as pack animals, similar to how they were in the past. They also work with the local community to help indigenous women find work in the tourism industry. The women that walked down from their village to help us were amazing. They must be the fittest people in the world- 2 or 3 hours walk to come to work every time they do this. They were friendly and sweet and made us a lovely lunch. We helped a bit with loading the llamas and helping them keep going, but the ladies did all the real work. Sofia was an amazing leader and we really enjoyed her company. I would highly recommend this trip. (We did the half day.) I was really fun, quite different from anything else we did, and it is really a good way to support the local ecology and community.

Better than Machu Picchu - What a fantastic experience! We did the half-day trek and loved it. The scenery is stunning, the llamas are endlessly entertaining and our guide, Alvaro, was a terrific companion and conversationalist. I am not being hyperbolic when I say I enjoyed it more than Machu Picchu. How often can you have this much fun while also supporting a worthy community initiative?  Regarding the hike: I am 65 years old and in reasonably good shape, and had spent a week acclimating to the altitude. I found the hike demanding but very doable. The website describes it as "easy to moderate"; I would definitely lean towards moderate, as I was quite tired and winded (but happy!) when we reached the top.

Magical experience for a good cause - Run to book this experience!! A little about this project- they work with local Andean communities not only to restore the llama population, but to also provide sustainable tourism that these communities get to benefit from. Learning about the mission was interesting - the way the project had to gain trust with the communities, to the empowerment of women. The experience itself was also very special and magical. We did a half day trek which consisted of hiking (relatively easy/moderate) with llamas and then a special traditional lunch cooked by our Andean guides. Shoutout to Sofia, our interpreter, who was passionate about the mission and a pleasure to spend time with. Highly recommend!

A Great Experience! - This was a once in a lifetime terrific experience! Sofia and our hosts were wonderful, patient and gracious as we learned about the Llama Project and their personal lives. We had time to learn about each other, help with the animals, help with making lunch all while learning about the traditions and culture of the people native to Peru nad their life in the mountain communities. Highly recommend.
