Embark on an unparalleled sailing experience on the Beagle Channel, exploring the stunning scenery and encountering a colony of Magellanic and Papua penguins on Martillo Island.

Duration: 5 hours
Cancellation: 24 hours
Highlights
  • Isla Martillo - We set sail from the local tourist pier along the wide Ushuaia Bay until we reach the Beagle Channel through Paso Chico.

There we sail around Isla de los Pájaros (Birds Island) where we will appreciate the Fuegian avifauna observing Skuas, Black-browed Albatrosses, Steamer Ducks, Geese, Kelp Gulls and Grey Gulls; and Isla de los Lobos (Sea Lions Island) where we will be able to observe one and two hair sea lions. Both islands belong to the Bridges Archipelago.

Arriving at Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse (The Illuminators), we will be able to appreciate the colonies of Imperial Cormorants and Rock Cormorants; and also hear the story of the sinking of the SS Monte Cervantes in 1930.

Continuing, we will sail eastwards enjoying the wonderful landscapes of the channel and the mountains that surround it, there we will see Puerto Almanza on the Argentinean coast and on the Chilean coast the Puerto Williams Naval Base, and then we will arrive at Martillo Island where we will have the opportunity to see a colony of Magellanic Penguins and some specimens of Papua penguins.

There, we turn to return to Ushuaia, sailing close to the north coast of the Channel, appreciating the characteristic flora and seeing some historical sites such as Estancia Túnel and Estancia Remolino, where the semi-sunken hull of the Steamship Monte Sarmiento has been located since 1912.

At the end of the trip you will be amazed with the view of the mountain range that surrounds the city of Ushuaia and its sumptuous nature that surrounds it. It is a journey of great historical and scenic value that we make, visiting privileged and interesting points throughout the trip, which you can discover sailing with Canoero Catamarans on the waters of the Beagle Channel.

We did most of the proposed excursions (the most important ones) and I took the opportunity to go trekking. - A wonderful place. Quiet, ideal for trekking, excursions to the national park, sailing along the canal. Ideal for traveling with family and being willing to walk a lot.

Penguins and seals - The catamaran was great, seats comfortable. The boat captain maneuvered the boat so all could see. A great experience.

Very cool - The tour is long, but very interesting. The catamaran instructor is great, available to answer any questions. And seeing the penguins up close was awesome!

Great experience! - We really enjoyed this adventure. The ship and crew were wonderful. We went at the beginning of penguin season (early November) and there weren’t all that many penguins at the island, but the rest of the experience was so wonderful I’d recommend it either way.

The most wonderful time... - The most wonderful time at the Beagle Channel was the last part of our trip, when we saw the penguins colony. These animals are very cute.

Stunning scenery and marine life. - Loved everything about this tour. We got really fortunate to have fantastic weather, and the whales came out to greet us several times! The staff are amazing (friendly, informative, and helpful). At this late of the season we still saw penguins :). The scenery is stunning.

Nature means life. - The ocean elephant, penguins, seals and birds. They are the meaning of life. Too many people in the boat.

Photographers ruined it - Overall a very bad experience due to the photography service. There is the option to pay for photographers to take your picture, but instead of having a dedicated area for photography, they just kick passengers out from their viewing spots. The penguins were great, but the photographers were obnoxious

Disappointing service. - Tour company canceled this trip for weather (understandable) but many other boats went out and the weather was not all that bad. We were not notified and had to stand in line for nearly an hour to be told of the cancellation. Luckily we found another tour and booked it. There are many operators on the pier at Ushuaia. I would not book this one again.
