Train Cemetery - Discover the resting place of Bolivia’s first trains, originally owned by the Bolivian Railway Company. This historic site is filled with fascinating stories and can also be a giant playground for adults.
Colchani - Learn about Bolivia’s salt production. You’ll have the opportunity to shop for handicrafts and original woolen clothing at great prices. This is the official gateway to the Salt Flats.
Salar de Uyuni - We’ll spend the majority of our time here. Besides taking mirror reflection and perspective photos, we’ll visit the first hotel made entirely of salt, Flag Island (where you can take photos with your country’s flag), the Dakar monument, the stairway to Heaven monument, and the Giant Cacti Island before witnessing a breathtaking sunset in the world’s largest salt desert.
After these activities, we’ll head to our accommodation at the Tayka de Sal Hotel.
Into the Andean deserts
Salar de Chiguana - Our day begins with a visit to another salt desert, smaller and brown-colored compared to Uyuni Salt Flats.
Laguna Canapa - We visit Cañapa lagoon, the first Andean lagoon, which is home to unique Andean wildlife.
Siloli Desert - At an altitude of about 5000 meters above sea level, this is one of the world’s driest and highest deserts. Here, we’ll see the famous stone tree, a unique rock formation shaped by wind erosion. We enter the Eduardo Abaroa National Reserve, Bolivia’s most remote protected area.
Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve of Andean Fauna - First, we visit the Red Lagoon, a 60 km2 body of water. We’ll trek around this beautiful lagoon, home to pink flamingos, before heading to our accommodation at Tayka del Desierto.
Hot springs and Geysers time!
Geiser Sol de la Manana - We rise early to see the geysers at their peak. Located at 4800 meters above sea level, it can be quite cold, but we’ll witness the first rays of the morning sun.
Aguas Termales de Polques - Bring your swimsuit because hot springs await! This area is rich in volcanic activity, allowing us to rejuvenate and enjoy the thermal waters and surreal landscape at dawn.
Salvador Dali Desert - After the hot springs, we’ll visit the Salvador Dalí desert, known as the ‘most surrealistic landscape’ in the world due to its resemblance to Salvador Dalí’s 1931 artwork “The Persistence of Memory.”
Laguna Verde - We’ll visit the Green Lagoon at Bolivia’s southwestern tip. This spot offers a fantastic view of the Licancabur volcano, which has served as a natural border between Bolivia and Chile since 1904, following the Pacific Ocean war between the two countries.
After this, we’ll return to Uyuni, making various stops for restroom breaks, snacks, and lunch along the way.
