The Salar de Uyuni, situated amidst the Andes in South Bolivia, is the world’s largest salt flat and a remnant of a prehistoric lake that evaporated, leaving behind around 11,000 square km of shimmering white salt, rock forms and cactus-laden islands. Its ethereal expanse can be observed from the central island, Incahuasi. The unique ecosystem is home to a sparse collection of wildlife, including a number of pink flamingos.
