Not to be missed - Motrek and especially Freddy and Jeez were fantastic guides. They put us at ease immediately with their humour and singing! We were issued brand new equipment for the day and everything was explained clearly. The trek itself was immense! The abseiling and cliff jumping are definitely not to be missed and we could see all the other people watching us with jealousy as we went down the waterfalls. Could not recommend highly enough, a fantastic day.

The perfect way to see the beauty of Mauritius 🇲🇺 - 100% recommend a visit and so worth the, at times, challenging climb to see this natural beauty. Would recommend getting a guide to help navigate the tracks safely. We contacted our guide directly via WhatsApp after finding his contact details on here as a recommendation. Sanjeev was so helpful from start to finish, even providing us with a delicious home cooked veggie wrap when we stopped for a cooling dip and rest. Contact details for Sanjeev are +230 5815 4375

Breathtaking landscape - Our Guide Nana listens to our expectations, our rhythm and she is passionate about the site. A "woman" Guide is really nice. Without it the hike would have been different

Swimming in beautiful waterfalls - A group of 7 of us did the half day waterfall trail. Our guide Nana did an amazing job navigating us through the forest and even brought with her some delicious Mauritian lunch. And to top it all up, we swam in 2 of the waterfalls :). A great experience through and through.

Mauritius in August - well worth it for an adventurous family holiday - Flights are very easy from the UK and arranging a hire car was very simple too, although taxis are plentiful and will take you all over the island at a reasonable cost. We L anded, picked up our car and sped off to Gand Baie. The west side of the island is less windy and you are sheltered from the prevalent easterly winds when on the beaches by the many palm trees. We found it really easy navigating around the island doing day visits to the Severn waterfalls (an amazing walk although it’s quite sever with some scrambling but it’s so worth the views and adventure). Guides at the main parking areas will take you although we did it ourselves but it’s easy to get lost if you’ve no experience tracking routes. Guides will charge 50 Euros per person. We then visited Le Morne beach and saw the most impressive sunset whilst splashing about in the beautiful pure clear warm sea. Currents can be strong between the reef and shore. Our break just got better each day. Walking in Black River Gorge is a must, but take good foot ware - it is a real jungle but again so worth it. Blue Bay is awesome for swimming and snorkelling but you’ll need to pay to join a boat trip to take you out beyond the currents to the reef - it’s cheap (10 Euro each) and utterly worth it. Grab a boat around 4 pm to avoid the crowds. Beaches are phenomenal and you can snorkel to the reef which is generally only 100m out - watch out for crossing speed boats though. Also watch out for the breakers when the water depth is only a meter or so down to the reef! We also got a small boat to see whales and swim with dolphins - a lifetime highlight for us all! People in Mauritius are kind, honest and friendly. It feels like a very safe place. Avoid walking in towns as pavements are limited. The culture and food is an amazing mix of Indian, African, South Africa and French - you will not go hungry. The local beer and rum are good too. Hotels are mostly of a great quality. Note that the public beaches can get crowded but you’ll also find some shacks that do great, cheap local food. Many beaches are served by clubs for 20 Euro a day per person but they’re worth it for sunbeds, pools, lunch and drinks. We were at a club and noticed a commotion in the sea, we went for a look and spent the next 30 mins swimming with a turtle. We loved our 2 weeks there. Prices are roughly the same as the UK for shopping and groceries. Going in August meant it was cooler (mid 20oC) a bit cloudier as it’s their winter. Mauritius is investing in better roads and picking up a lot of plastic pollution too.

Half Day trek in the 5 cascades of Tamarin - Ile Maurice - Great morning in Family this morning with Sanjeev our guide. This 3 hour tour brought us from the dense forest to the 5 cascades of Tamarin (plan for 6 hours for the 7 cascades). The weather was not fully with us - regular rains - but the beautiful landscape compensated greatly. Sanjeev is a very nice guide, he knows the place, the right photo spots and he kept us always in security despite mud and watered terrain. Half way trough, the Snack Pause at the bottom of the cascade has been great - a must - prepared by Sanjeev’s mother, typical Mauricien with very tasty with Egg-Plant beignets, gateaux au piment and great vegetarian Rotis. Great moment. Do not hesitate to contact him if you plan for this visit +230 5815 4375. Certainly a great moment like us today.

Great hike along the Tanarind falls - We (a family of 2 adults + 11,15 years old kids) had a fantastic day trip with our guide, Andy. Andy was incredibly nice, has good English and provided ongoing explanations about the trail as well as about plants and greenery on our way. Trip also included light local food, snacks he prepared in advance. At the end, we all went to a local restaurant in the village to eat noodles etc. Overall, a superb day - highly recommended!

Superb Hiking - We enjoyed this hike in Mauritius, with seven waterfalls with Yanature, and more specifically with our Yudish Guide who helped us, advise, explain the subtleties of fauna and flower during the hike. Many thanks to Yudish for his sympathy and kindness. We recommend.

Must-do hike - Spectacular must-do hike. I decided last minute gorcthis hike with my 10 year old daughter and it was a great decision. Our guide Andy was great- he knew all the tricks for the hike, for great photo shots, for the swimming in the falls, he was fun and took his time for us to enjoy. And he brought some nice fruit and samosa’s to share. Don’t miss out on this one, bring your swimsuit, optimally hiking shoes or at least running shoes (it is not a long hike but don’t underestimate it as it is steep and slipper at times) and enjoy. Seeing one of these falls is a stunning experience, but so many great waterfalls in one single hike - I don’t know any other place in this world you can get that. You even go at the back of one of the falls. Amazing. Strongly recommended!!!

All 7 waterfalls is for the die-hards, the first 5 are beautiful enough! - Absolutely recommended to do the small round along the first 5 waterfalls. It takes a while to find the starting point (go past the bus station for another 2 km) but with a walking app (I used all trails) you can find this. With us were Guide and not very intrusive (just ignore) and the walk is good without guide to do. Make sure you have sturdy shoes with good grip, because it is climbing and descending (with us it was dry). The reward is great, beautiful waterfalls and beautiful views! By mistake we walked the big round (all 7 waterfalls) but that is not worth the effort. The path is getting harder and harder and you have already had the best view. This round lasted more than 4 hours and is tough. Main advice: apply mosquito repellent several times;-)
