Highlights
  • Hagar Qim Temples - Our first destination is the Megalithic temples of Hagar Qim, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, we delve into Malta’s prehistory and discover insights into the island’s earliest civilization. These remarkable stone structures, crafted over 5000 years ago using primitive stone tools, offer a glimpse into the ingenuity and craftsmanship of ancient peoples. Our exploration begins in the museum, where we immerse ourselves in the diverse ways of life of these early inhabitants. From there, we venture to the temples themselves, ready to witness first-hand the enduring legacy of Malta’s ancient past.

  • Blue Grotto (Il-Hnejja) - The Blue Grotto is our next stop, located in the picturesque valley, fishing hamlet, and tiny sea port of Wied iz-Zurrieq. The grotto and neighbouring system of sea caves are home to brilliant phosphorescent marine life. A 25-minute boat trip explores the incredible beauty of this natural wonder and is a “must-do”. The fee for the boat trip is not included in the ticket price and will require an additional €10.

Marsaxlokk, is a quaint fishing village and is characterized by low lying buildings and the colourful traditional fishing boats known as the ‘luzzu’. A small market lines the seafront, and you will have some free time to wander around, grab a drink and enjoy the ambience of this seaside village.

  • Cospicua - Here we will stop for a tasting experience, and experience local cuisine like the ‘Ftira’, recently included and UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The ‘Ftira’ is made from flattened sourdough bread and filled with Mediterranean-type ingredients such as olive oil and tomato, tuna, capers and olives. Other items on the menu can include one of Malta’s favourite beverages - Kinnie, a uniquely bittersweet beverage made from orange flavour contrasting with aromatic herbs. The tasting experience is included in the ticket price.

  • Birgu - Our final stop of the day will be a tour of Birgu, a maritime city steeped in history and intrigue. Originally a humble settlement with African huts, Birgu was transformed into a bustling economic centre by the Knights of St. John upon their arrival in 1530. As we meander through its narrow, winding roads, we’ll explore the ‘collacchio,’ the prestigious district where the Knights and other esteemed figures like the Inquisitor and Bishop resided. Our journey leads us to Dockyard Creek, home to Malta’s first dry-dock and the Royal Naval Bakery at the Victualling Yard.

From the boat, we’ll be treated to a breath-taking panorama of the surrounding Three Cities—Senglea, Bormla, and the picturesque vistas of Birgu itself - as well as the imposing walls of Valletta straight ahead.
