Embracing the Elements: Vancouver’s Natural Wonders
As the rain taps a rhythmic beat on your umbrella, the call of the wild beckons you to explore Vancouver’s breathtaking natural landscapes. The Lynn Canyon & Deep Cove Tour is your gateway to an adrenaline-fueled adventure amidst towering trees and cascading waterfalls. Available from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on both November 9th and 10th, this tour promises an exhilarating journey through the heart of Vancouver’s wilderness.
Start your day with a heart-pounding walk across the 50-meter-high suspension bridge at Lynn Canyon Park. Feel the rush of the mountain river below as you traverse this iconic landmark, surrounded by the lush greenery of Douglas Fir and Hemlock trees. The trail that follows is a trek through time, where the air is thick with the scent of fresh forest and the whispers of ancient ferns. As you hike towards Quarry Rock, the panoramic views of Indian Arm and the surrounding mountains will leave you breathless, a testament to the raw beauty of Vancouver’s natural heritage.
Maritime Marvels: A Dive into History
When the rain becomes a steady companion, seek shelter in the rich maritime history of the Pacific Northwest at the Maritime Museum. Open from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on both days, this museum is a treasure trove of nautical wonders waiting to be discovered.
Step aboard the RCMP Vessel St. Roch, a National Historic Site, and let your imagination set sail on the high seas. This mid-century modern A-frame structure houses a collection of artifacts and interactive displays that bring the maritime past to life. From the early days of fishing and shipping to the modern era of ocean exploration, the museum offers a captivating glimpse into the lives of those who braved the waters of the Pacific Northwest.
Review (2024-07-31): Small gem — many diverse treasures - We drove up through Vancouver but could have better taken the False Creek Ferry to arrive at the waterfront dock. The museum owns half a dozen historical boats, most carefully described: there’s also the ongoing products of a wooden boat building school. All this before you walk in the doors! Diverse galleries, with natural history, First Nations marine activities, kids “play” area, ship models, diving bells, nautical instruments and more. The A-frame part of the museum was literally built around famous arctic exploration vessel RCMP St Roch— a 1930s wooden motor-sailor 100 feet in length. We loved going aboard and literally into the crew’s forecastle quarters, the main deck’s officer quarters, climbing up metal ladders to the helm (!), then clambering aft to a working deck. Knowledgeable docent answered questions well! Real treat for us!! In sub-grade level, underneath the vessel itself, is a detailed traditional museum display about three centuries of efforts to locate the fabled Northwest Passage — accomplished at last by Amundsen one-way and by Henry Larsen in this vessel both east-to-west and west-to-east.
