Great tour in a beautiful city! - What a great tour! I’m a flight attendant, so I travel a lot and do hop on hop off tour in a lot of different cities. But this one was made, especially great, not just because of the beautiful city of Vancouver, but the tour guide was fantastic! His name was Nigel, he was super fun, engaging, had great stories and information about everything. He made it really fun! The driver, Jamie, was super awesome too! At the end of the tour, he was supposed to go home, but rather than make those of us on the bus wait for another tour bus to come along to get us, he offered to drop us off. That was so amazing. They made the entire experience fantastic!

Great tour driver and guide - Sherry our driver was amazing, funny and very knowledgeable. Had a lot of history facts, geographical and architectural facts about the city. She did a great job. I Really enjoyed it.

One GREAT guide but 2 poor guides - Our first tour guide was Mary. She was the best ever. Provided lots of information, clearly and answered all of our questions. She truly knew all about Vancouver and was very excited to share it with us. We tend to do the complete circuit then decide on the next go-around where we wanted to get off. We decided to get off at Granville Island. Unfortunately Mary left us at the end at Gastown and Vinny took over for her. He was the worst guide I have ever had. He spoke more about Vinny the beautiful, called us his babies, talked about how many condos he owned and about the trees changing colour. He provided almost no information about Vancouver. We could barely wait to get off at Grandville Island as he was extremely annoying. If Vinny had been our guide on the first circuit I would have strongly asked for our money back. Once we got back on the bus at Granville Island the driver was the guide. He shared very little about Vancouver on the trip from Grandville to Gastown. We knew how much information there was to share with us as Mary had done a FANTASTIC job. The circuit around Vancouver is good but it is obviously the 'luck of the draw' if you get a good/great guide or not.

Good and Bad - There are 2 types of buses being used for the HOHO. The first type is very old, rickety, tight seating and impossible to hear. The back of the bus has plastic sheeting for windows that you cannot see out of and that rattles terribly. The 2nd type is a modern double decker with a semi-decent speaker system. Unfortunately most of our rides were on the first type. Because we couldn't hear, we got no good commentary about the city. We did hop off at several stops and were able to hop on within 15 minutes or so

Too much personal information - Too much personal information from the drivers. Hard to understand. We wanted history about the area not bathroom problems or his dating life…..

Not the best experience - Very disappointed. Buses were old and noisy. Basiccally poorly maintained school buses. Stops seemed irregular. At the last stop we were informed there was only one more pickup. Over an hour earlier than advertised. Find some other way. In fairness we arrrived in town mid morning and started early afternoon expecting to use the buses until 6:30 as advertised. Service stopped at 5:30. Might have worked better if we had a whole day.

Waste of money Embarrassment to Vancouver. - Gray Line disappoints. An old, loud (could hardly hear guide) uncomfortable school bus from the 1960s. Guides minimally informed. You would think a company this size would have modern equipment throughout and train their guides with complete, engaging, pertinent information. One of the worst, and mostly uninteresting HOHO out of over a dozen we've been on. Saw a nice Gray Line bus in Victoria but checked ourselves from taking it due to this experience in Van. Gray Line, do better.

Cruise ship embarkation excursion - Sounds good but not what was expected - We booked the Gray Line WestCoast sightseeing Hop On Hop Off Hotel excursion through Royal Caribbean. It was not what we were hoping for. On embarkation day, we had to meet in the theater at 7:45am and waited until 8:45am. Then we exited the ship to only wait in another long line for over an hour before going through customs together as a group. Then we went through customs as a group to only wait in line again before boarding the sightseeing bus. There were two buses - a double decker and an open air bus. Both buses were crowded. After we boarded the bus, we found out that the Hop On Hop Off did not even go close to the Westin Wall Centre where we were staying. When we booked the excursion, we were told they did. After going around the bus tour one time, we got off at Stop 1 where we were told we get to the train station to get to the hotel. We walked to the Waterfront Train Station like the tour guide said. We had a transit ticket in our bag given to us as we checked in to the Hop On Hop Off excursion as we got off the ship. The tour guide told us the train would take us to our hotel. We got on the Canada train and got off at the Bridgeport stop. When we tried to exit, the gate would not open and the gate message said we needed to pay $1.48 since we were in Zone Two. We had no idea what that meant but it did not matter since we could not get out. We had to us the train’s emergency call phone for help. The lady on the phone sent someone to help us. The lady came quickly. She said the train is not close to the Westin Wall Centre but we could take the bus, an Uber, or walk. Since it was a beautiful day, we decided to walk to the hotel. She told us to be careful walking. It was a 15-minute walk, crossing a 5-lane highway! I asked her to help us out the additional fare on our tickets so we could out. I think she felt sorry for us and just opened the exit gate for us and did not make us pay the additional fare. When we checked into the hotel, we told the front desk our luggage would be delivered between 3pm-9:30pm. Finally at 9:40pm, we went down to the front desk to inquire about our luggage, it had been sitting in the hotel’s luggage locker. You would think the Hop On Hop Off luggage service would have texted or emailed saying the luggage was dropped off at the hotel. Additionally, you would the hotel would have called or texted us when it was delivered. While the Hop On Hop Off Hotel excursion with luggage delivery to the hotel seemed like a great idea, it was a disaster from the beginning to the end. I would not recommend this excursion even though it sounds appealing to have your luggage delivered to your hotel. We should have made our own arrangements! The party in front of us had two elderly people with them. These people had to ask for a chair for them as they could not stand for that long, waiting to get checked into the Hop On Hop Off excursion. I am not sure if the buses were handicap accessible. At every stop, when people boarded and exited, the driver/tour guide encouraged the riders to leave a good review on TripAdvisor. I do not like feeling pressured to leave good reviews, especially when the experience was not what we expected. Next time, we will walk off the ship ourselves and make our own arrangements!

Not worth the money - We always use the Hop On Hop Off bus in every city we visit around the world. Unfortunately, Vancouver’s was possibly the worst. Very old buses with uncomfortable seats, sound systems which didn’t work at all on one bus and could barely understand on another and a very bumpy ride. Over the 48 hours we used the service, we travelled on around six buses. None were up to scratch. The other major issue was the waiting time. We were told a bus comes every 20 mins. The first time we got off, we waited 30 mins for a bus to turn up and then the bus that arrived was full. Another 15 mins later a bus turned up that could take us! For the price we paid, there needs to be great improvement. I couldn’t recommend this service as it is. You are better off using the public bus system.

Figure out where you want to go and get an Uber. I guarantee you will save money and time. Disgraceful - This was a rip off! Over $120 for 2 people. They claim there is a pick up every 25 minutes. At our first stop (Stanley Park) we waited over 40 minutes for a bus the2nd stop at Sutton Place Hotel we waited 20 minutes for a bus and it was full. The driver said one was 5 minutes behind him. It arrived almost 30 minutes later. Terrible service!
