Walk the paved trail of 3 kilometers (1.8 mi), which will take you to the base of the La Paz waterfall. This ecological park, with a height that varies between 1,200 and 1,500 meters (4,000 to 5,000 ft), is home to a wide variety of wildlife and plant species.\n\nThe La Paz waterfall is a perfect and relaxing destination for the whole family, full of opportunities to take photographs worthy of a postcard of the fantastic natural beauty of Costa Rica.

La Paz Waterfall Gardens is Costa Rica’s top private ecological highlight, featuring San Jose’s finest trails. It encompasses the country’s most renowned cascades, including the famous La Paz Waterfall, and serves as a wildlife sanctuary and private reserve hosting over 100 animal species. They also offer programs on environmental education. There are five waterfalls nested within the cloud and rainforest. An aviary with 40 bird species offers toucan feeding, along with displays of titi monkeys and insects. It includes a butterfly garden with a lab, 2-toed sloths, capuchin monkeys, spider monkeys, and a hummingbird garden with more than 26 documented species that allow morning and afternoon hand-feeding. There are also exhibition areas for jaguars, pumas, ocelots, tigrillos, cauceles, and oxen carts at the ‘house of peace’ with domesticated animals. Other displays include frog exhibits, orchid showcases, and presentations of heliconias and bromeliads.

Waterfalls and animals - The waterfalls were beautiful. The lunch was a buffet with lots of options, even my picky children were happy. The animals are in more of a zoo like atmosphere which was disappointing. The frog exhibit was the best with frogs out on the vegetation. Plan on the tour running over. We were originally to be back at the hotel at 4:00 and did not return until after 5:00.

Excellent tour - This was an awesome experience! The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the area. Along the way she spoke about how they grow strawberries in the greenhouses and other fruits they grow here in Costa Rica due to the rich soils from the volcanic ash.
At the falls she spoke about the different species of animals and reptiles, including how the frogs reproduce from the egg sacs and the eggs that are hatched then to tadpoles with the end result of a frog. What they don't keep there they release back into the wild. I also enjoyed the birds, butterflies, snakes and various species of wild cats.
The tour included a buffet lunch and everything I tasted was delicious. The driver of the van was also very courteous and professional.
I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone I know that is coming to Costa Rica in the San Jose area.

Wonderful day trip from San Jose - The guides are amazing. La Paz waterfalls are spectacular. The group was small and gave us a lot of time to get to know the other members of the group. It is definitely a climb down to the waterfalls and back up, but so worth it!

Book It - Our tour guide, only wish I could remember his name, was AMAZING. Historical commentary within San Jose. A few quick "upgrade" stops at a coffee planation / coffee house plus a mountain berry/cheese farm, like tour busses do but these were quality stops. My son is a 14yo Gringo but has lived in Cosa Rica for 3 years, and he and our tour guide vibed the whole time. Our guide was completely fluent in Spanish and English, but also appreciated my son's language skills and my own poor efforts. :D Sir you gave us both a day we will always cherish. Everyone bring cold bottled water if you are fat or out of shape like me, or not good with stairs, but tour is epic. Thank you!

Fun day filled with adventure - This tour was fun and interesting. Abdul our tour guide and Juan Carlos the driver were friendly, knowledgeable, professional, extremely friendly and kind. We learned a lot about Costa Rica’s culture flora and fauna. I highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in getting out of San Juan and up for a day filled with adventures.

Amazing beautiful informative tour! - This was a beautiful guided tour! Our family enjoyed it so much! We learned so much from our tour guide John Jimenez! He is amazing and made our tour feel special! He is very friendly and knowledgeable! We loved him!
