Additional Information

Experience the most intriguing elements of Portuguese history with our Old Goa Heritage Walk. Previously, Old Goa was not only the capital of Goa but also a bustling city, even before the Portuguese era. It was once the heart of the empire of Bahmani Sultan Adil Shah. The Portuguese, led by Afonso de Albuquerque, arrived in 1510 and seized the city from Adil Shah, the Bijapur Kingdom’s leader. Their main intentions for the East were commerce and spreading Christianity.

On our Old Goa Heritage Walk, discover some extremely important historical edifices. Old Goa, a World Heritage site, is home to some of the most majestic and ancient churches in the region. The magnificent Sé Cathedral, St. Francis of Assissi Church, the Chapel of St. Catherine, Church of Our Lady of Rosary and the dome-shaped church of St. Cajetan are among the many you’ll see.

Quick and fascinating tour of Old Goa - Mugdha was a fantastic guide. She was able to convey the rich and complicated history of Goa in engaging ways, even with our youngest kids. She could tell us about the land, the many dynasties that had ruled in the area, connect it back seemlessly to things happening in Europe. Loads of fun!

Old Goa a heritage to be proud of…. - We visit many places but often remember only a few. To truly remember a place, knowing its history is crucial. Our guide, Vimala D'Souza, made this trip unforgettable by sharing the rich history and stories of each church. Her knowledgeable and systematic storytelling covered architecture, culture, and heritage. This guided walk has left me eager for more, and I recommend it to those wanting to explore Goa beyond its beaches.
