- Arbanasi - The earliest recorded history of Arbanasi is found in a royal decree by Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent from 1538. According to this decree, the Sultan gifted the lands of present-day Arbanasi, Lyaskovets, Gorna Oryahovitsa, and Dolna Oryahovitsa to his son-in-law, Grand Vizier Rustem Pasha. The document refers to these four villages collectively as Arnaud Kariyeleri (“the Albanian villages”), suggesting the first settlers were possibly Albanians and Greeks from Epirus. Although Albanian names appeared in Ottoman tax records, Orthodox and Slavic names were already predominant. Arbanasi was heavily influenced by Greek culture for centuries, with a Greek school and religious services conducted in Greek, as the Bulgarian Orthodox Church was banned by Ottoman authorities, requiring the Bulgarian Orthodox population to be served by the Greek Orthodox Church.
