- The Bridge of Friendship - The Danube Bridge, also known as the Friendship Bridge, is a steel truss bridge spanning the Danube River, linking the Bulgarian bank to the south with the Romanian bank to the north. It is one of only two bridges connecting Romania and Bulgaria.
Designed by Soviet engineers, the bridge measures 2,223.52 m (7,295.0 ft) in length and was, at the time of its construction in 1954, the sole bridge over the Danube shared by Bulgaria and Romania. The central section of the bridge (85 m) is movable and can be raised to allow passage for oversized boats. Romania is responsible for maintaining the movable section, which is regularly inspected. The bridge was built in two and a half years with assistance from the Soviet Union.
- Ruse - Ruse is celebrated for its 19th- and 20th-century Neo-Baroque and Neo-Rococo architecture, which attracts many visitors. It is often referred to as Little Vienna.
Ruse is the birthplace of Nobel laureate in Literature Elias Canetti and writer Michael Arlen.
The Rousse TV Tower is constructed on the site of Leventtabia, a former Turkish fortification.
A popular legend suggests that the name Ruse derives from the Finnish word ruskea, or from the name of a female founder of the city, Rusa, meaning “blonde hair.” In the 13th and 14th centuries, during the Second Bulgarian Empire, a fortified settlement called Rusi, first mentioned in 1380, developed near the ruins of an earlier Roman town.
