Originally a smaller natural lake, it was enlarged with the construction of a dam in the 1930s.
The Piave River serves as one of the lake’s outlets.
Known for its windy conditions, the area is a popular spot for sailing, watersports, and kitesurfing.

Lake Misurina was the venue for the speed skating events during the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo, marking the last time Olympic speed skating was held on natural ice.
