Our cooking experience in Venice - Our experience with Nadine in Venice wa amazing!! Our family of 7 including teens and adults asked for a very hands in experience and Nadine did not disappoint. She just volves everyone and we did everything ourselves. We learned how to make several pasta types and sauces and tiramisu for dessert. And then we all sat together and ate. It was incredible. We cannot thank Nadine enough for this experience and for welcoming us into her home! Grazie!!

Giulia's Cucina, the highlight of our trip - Four delightful hours in Giulia's kitchen and we are now pasta enthusiasts! We found her chic and bright apartment with easy to follow guidelines and got down to introductions and basic instructions pretty quickly. First we mixed up a batch of pasta dough by hand and then watched as Giulia skillfully kneaded the dough as she talked about childhood memories of pasta making with her nonna. Her hands moved the pasta dough with practised skill we could only admire. Then the dough rested while Giulia talked us through the types of pasta we were going to cut and the sauces to accompany them. We loved the idea of using simple ingredients to the fullest - even the water in which spinach cooked became the base for our first sauce. The real fun happened when we started to roll out the pasta with her electric pasta machine. It was easy and fun and kept both of us busy. Giulia demonstrated how to fill the pasta with a ricotta and spinach mix and then fold into the tortelloni shape. A quick plunge into boiling water and it seemed in just minutes we were eating plates of luscious pasta, glistening with a buttery, light spinach essence. Of course, glasses of prosecco accompanied the first course. At that point we had to warn Giulia that our appetites couldn't deal with two more courses! So we agreed on tasting portions and began cutting more pasta, this time sending sheets of pasta through the machine into thin linguini. We made piles of pasta while Giulia talked us through a typical Venetian anchovy and shallot based sauce. A quick, partial cook in boiling water and then the pasta went into the bubbling sauce to finish cooking. She topped it with toasted pine nuts and freshly grated lemon zest. Giulia demonstrated a simple restaurant style plating which we will use at home. This pasta was our absolute favorite, especially when it was accompanied by more prosecco. And then we continued on making a final dish from the edges and scraps of pasta. Maltagliati in basil pesto, with a crunchy parmesan tuile, was delicious. The pasta eating was better than restaurant quality, but there was so much more to the experience. Giulia created an environment of Italian hospitality and sharing. She demonstrated skill and practise. She topped things off with flourishes of genius - the parmesan tuile. And she was just so charming and approachable, the time flew. This pasta making class is the first thing we talk about when people ask. "How was the trip?"

Like Meeting Old Friends for the First Time - Learning to make tiramisu and pasta with Guilia was the highlight of our trip. Her kitchen is perfectly arranged for function, comfort, and beauty. And Guilia is a delight! We were fortunate to meet her daughter, who has studied in the U.S. The conversation was funny and informative, while we learned to make these delicious dishes. Enjoying good wine and the meal we prepared in the easy company of our new friends left us with warm memories. A perfect day! We will do this again and again.

Lovely hostess, Fun but not something to repeat - The host was lovely. The pasta making was entertaining. My child was a bit picky and only ate one of the three pastas. Despite writing that he doesn’t eat meat on my online booking, the sauce had meat in it. The hostess was very sweet, offering to cook something else. In the end, it was enjoyable but I wouldn’t repeat the experience.

Guide No Show No Refund - late chg of meeting location - We were so excited to participate in this class and learn some authentic Italian recipes. Viator or the host changed the meeting location and being on vacation we did not get the info timely so the guide didn’t show and we are out $400+ because they refuse to reimburse us. Stay clear or monitor email like a hawk which isn’t any fun on vacation. Sad. 😔

Disappointed, not hands-on, not as promised - I was disappointed with Barbara's cooking class. We met our guide in the square and walked to her apartment. This was totally different from the instructions we received via email. She welcomed us in and explained we could make 3 kinds of pasta (which was advertised). She said 3 types of pasta would be too much. She finally agreed to make 2 small portions of pasta and risotto. The experience was very minimally hands-on. Our host made the pasta (we got to take turns kneading the dough) and filled the ravioli with filling. We watched from a distance while our chef prepared the risotto and sauce for the pasta. We didn't get to prepare our own sauce. It was a lot of watching and not a lot of doing. About an hour into the experience we were offered the last of a bottle of white wine that had likely been opened for a day or two. In “what is included” was advertised we would get multiple local wines: "Taste a selection of local red and white wines with your meal". For the price of the experience, my dad and I were disappointed (total of €260 for two people). Lastly, we did not receive a souvenir apron and a shopping bag which was advertised and promised.
